PhilCare’s Health Vantage: The Most accessible, comprehensive HMO coverage available

Did you know that more Filipinos actually own a smartphone than have their own HMO card?

In a research done by statista, the number of smartphone users in the Philippines is estimated to reach 30.4 million. This means that around 32 percent of the population in the Philippines are smartphone users– in contrast only 4 percent of Filipinos enjoy comprehensive HMO coverage, and most people who have that coverage only do because they work for large corporations that are given bulk discounts.

This means that while almost half of our population is connected to the world waiting for the next trend or viral video they aren’t prepared when a real virus actually hits them and require even minor hospitalizations.  And when such eventualities do occur, the financial cost will very often lead debt that has to be paid over a period of several months.

WHAT ARE HMOs?

Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs) are a type of managed health care system that was created as a way to decrease costs for healthcare consumers across the country. HMOs place importance on preventative measure, spending money on keeping those enrolled healthy to avoid higher healthcare costs later.

HMOs are focused on larger-scale businesses who need to offer health insurance to high numbers of employees. HMOs include primary care physicians, specialists, hospitals, clinics and other healthcare facilities. The primary care position refers patients to specialists, and those who belong to an HMO must obtain their care from specific facilities and providers who adhere to the HMO guidelines and restrictions (with the exception for emergency care which can be obtained from any facility).

We all know that a medical emergency is perhaps the most  devastating  thing to happen to  ordinary people. Unfortunately, due to the financial reality of most Filipinos, we are far from prepared when crises do occur. But we aren’t the ones solely to blame for not having an HMO. Getting an HMO can sometimes be difficult and costly especially if you are a freelancer and are not regularly employed. With the regular Filipino’s financial reality in mind, PhilCare created the Health Vantage prepaid card.  With PhilCare’s Health Vantage, Filipinos pay only what they can afford, for a multi-use prepaid health card that covers ER, hospitalization, and the bulk of other services that go with it up to a limit that is many times the cost of the Health Vantage Card.

“Tingi” is very much the financial mindset of Filipinos, and that’s what Health Vantage is.  It is affordable enough to not be a financial burden on its own to Filipinos buying as individuals, but it also carries coverage that is many times more than its actual price for a full year, and over multiple hospitalizations.

Available for individual purchase online, Health Vantage is the most affordable way to approximate the HMO coverage that employees at big companies get under comprehensive, bulk group plans.

Health Vantage is a multiple-frequency of availment emergency card. The Health Vantage program also covers outpatient emergency care and emergency care leading to hospitalization up to the plan benefit limit. There are 3 variants of Health Vantage card: Health Vantage 40, Health Vantage 60, and Health Vantage 80.

The ER Shield and ER Vantage Plus are for one-time use only, regardless if the total aggregate benefit limit is consumed or not.  The advantage of ER Shield and ER Vantage Plus vouchers is that, for a very affordable amount, you are assured of assistance, if not all, for the big portion of the hospital emergency care expenses that you will incur.

Health Vantage card, on the other hand, has no limit on the number of times you use the card within a year as long as the aggregate benefit is not yet consumed.

Health Vantage Vantage gives you coverage for emergency room care and hospitalization expenses, inclusive of Doctors’ fees, Laboratory and diagnostic procedures, Room and board (regular private room) Medicines (except vaccines) as medically necessary during confinement except for cases declared as non-coverable, Special modalities of treatment which are medically necessary during ER and confinement and subject to standard inner limits, Diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as medically necessary during ER and confinement.
