New PNP Chief eyes a more respected and effective police force

An integrated and more effective 911 emergency system, legal assistance for police officers, and a more respected PNP–these are just some of the goals shared by the 30th Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Rommel Francisco Marbil at recent media gathering held at DarkRoast Coffee House in the City.

The new PNP chief likewise acknowledged the dedication of police officers, particularly in tasks like combating illegal drugs, and pledged to establish legal support for personnel facing court charges linked to their duties. He also underscored the significance of prioritizing the well-being of police officers to enhance their effectiveness in serving the community.

Chief Marbil has endorsed President Bongbong Marcos’s non-violent strategy for tackling drug-related issues, highlighting a significant drug bust involving over two tons of shabu on April 15 that occurred without any casualties. Upon his appointment as the head of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Marbil committed to prioritizing human rights and reducing street killings in the government’s enhanced anti-drug campaign. He has promised that the PNP will carry out anti-drug operations leading to thousands of arrests and the confiscation of illegal drugs valued in the millions, all while ensuring no fatalities occur.

Furthermore, to boost the effectiveness of the police force, he has implemented a ban on the use of mobile phones during duty hours to ensure that officers remain focused on their responsibilities. All police personnel are advised to avoid unnecessary phone usage while on duty, and there are plans to increase police presence in communities. Under Marbil’s leadership, the PNP is dedicated to maintaining high standards of professionalism, integrity, and service to ensure the safety and security of the Filipino people.

As the event concluded, Chief Marbil expressed gratitude to the organizers for providing a platform to share his vision for the Philippine National Police. “I am grateful to the organizers for this event because it gives me a better chance to meet all media people, not just those assigned in our organization. I hope we could all work harmoniously for our country and for our safety,” he remarked.
