Celebrating 190 Years of Excellence: Ginebra San Miguel Unveils the Art of Gin on World Gin Day

As Ginebra San Miguel Inc. (GSMI) marks its remarkable 190th anniversary, the company is pulling out all the stops to celebrate this milestone on World Gin Day (WGD). This annual celebration, held every second Saturday of June, has become a global phenomenon, observed across Europe, Australia, the United States, and the Philippines.

A Legacy of Gin-Making Excellence

GSMI pioneered the first World Gin Day celebration in the Asia-Pacific region in 2014. Since then, the event has grown in popularity, drawing gin enthusiasts eager to partake in GSMI’s vibrant festivities. This year’s celebration is particularly special, kicking off with a media launch on June 4 at the Novotel Manila Araneta City and featuring month-long activities that celebrate June as Gin Month.

Ron Molina, GSMI Marketing Manager, expressed his excitement: “This year’s World Gin Day holds a special significance as it coincides with our 190th anniversary. We’ve crafted a unique World Gin Day experience that lets gin enthusiasts step back in time to celebrate the rich history and craftsmanship of Ginebra San Miguel.”

Unveiling the Art of Gin

The main highlight of this year’s WGD is the Art of Gin exhibit, a comprehensive exploration of Ginebra’s storied history. The exhibit is divided into three captivating chapters: OriGINs, GINnovations, and ImaGINations.

OriGINs: The Birth of a Filipino Icon

Historian Alvin Campomanes brings the origin of Ginebra San Miguel to life, narrating the rich history of the Philippines’ first-ever gin, established on March 10, 1834. Visitors can witness human statues depicting key historical figures and explore artifacts that chronicle Ginebra’s journey from a luxury drink for the wealthy to a beloved spirit of the masses. The exhibit also showcases the iconic bottle label painted by National Artist Fernando Amorsolo, depicting St. Michael the Archangel vanquishing evil.

GINnovations: Evolution of Excellence

This chapter delves into the advancements and innovations in gin-making that have defined Ginebra San Miguel. From its meticulous distillation process in copper stills to its diverse product lineup, including GSM Blue, Ginebra San Miguel, GSM Premium Gin, and the 1834 Premium Distilled Gin, GSMI continues to lead the market with quality and innovation.

Introducing the Ginebra San Miguel Archangel Reserve

In a fitting tribute to its 190-year legacy, GSMI has unveiled the Ginebra San Miguel Archangel Reserve. This super-premium dry gin is crafted from a perfect balance of six select botanicals: juniper berry, angelica root, coriander seed, lemon peel, orange peel, and liquorice. Each botanical is meticulously distilled in traditional copper stills, ensuring an exquisite and smooth finish that is perfect for the discerning palate.

The Archangel Reserve is bottled in a striking one-liter emerald green flask, a nod to Ginebra San Miguel’s storied history and iconic branding. The bottle features the image of St. Michael the Archangel, symbolizing the brand’s heritage of excellence and craftsmanship. This 90-proof gin is not just a drink but a celebration of life’s most memorable moments, reserved for distinguished toasts and special occasions.

Ginebra San Miguel Names the Newest Batch of ‘Gin-is-In’ Ambassadors

In addition to unveiling the Archangel Reserve, GSMI introduced the new faces of its ‘Gin-is-In’ campaign during the World Gin Day celebration. Jayson Luzadas, also known as Boss Toyo, rapper and host of the popular YouTube show Pinoy Pawnstars; Atty. Oliver Moeller, a showbiz newcomer and heartthrob lawyer from Cebu; and GMA Sparkle Talent and content creator Mikee Quintos are the new ambassadors representing gin’s cool, clear, and versatile qualities.

Through the ‘Gin-is-In’ campaign, GSMI aims to ignite a greater appreciation of gin’s outstanding qualities that separate it from other liquor categories. Each ambassador embodies a unique aspect of gin’s character:
