August 31 is National Zomba Day!

Because everybody is a zombody…

Calling all, Zombabes, Zomboys, Zombagets, Zomballers, Zombloggers, Zombelievers, Zombankers, Zombaristas, Zomballerinas, Zombarkadas and Zombarangays….

Following the longest long weekend this year comes another red, scratch that, pink letter day.

Coming to theaters on August 31 is the comedy-thriller Zombadings 1: Patayin sa Shokot si Remington, whose cast includes national treasures of comedy Roderick Paulate and Eugene Domingo and heir-apparent Martin Escudero in a jaw-dropping star turn as Remington, the boy cursed to turn bakla.

They are joined by a motley group of veteran actors and newbies — Janice de Belen, John Regala, Odette Khan, Angelina Kanapi, Kerbie Zamora, and Lauren Young — to form what is turning out to be the most surprising and surefire “laugh team” to hit the screens in a long while.

Early sneak previews are generating a buzz of excellent word of mouth that’s building up into a frenzy. “Magkaka-abs ka sa kakatawa,” tweeted one excited viewer. “Of all the comedies I’ve seen in the last couple of years, I laughed the hardest and cheered the loudest while watching Zombadings,” wrote Fidel Antonio Medel in his movie review.

The Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB) of the Philippines, usually a staid group, referred to a famous Muppet to describe the experience of watching the movie: “To paraphrase Kermit the Frog: It’s not easy being gay, but this film shows it surely is a lot of fun!” It gave the film an A, the highest grade, calling it “an incredible achievement with an amusing and rare synergy of horror, comedy, satire, and drama.”

Even the MTRCB was won over. The panel that reviewed the movie gave it a PG-13 rating (children below 13 years old shall be allowed only if accompanied by a parent or adult), without cuts. It merely remarked in its permit that the movie “may warrant mature guidance, especially for… a flirtation scene at a staircase involving two male best friends on the verge of a makeout.”

So celebrate National Zomba Day by watching Zombadings 1: Patayin sa Shokot si Remington when the film opens in theaters nationwide on August 31
