Some stories refuse to grow old. Bagets is one of them.
Are you ready for the most Tito and Tita musical of 2026?
Four decades after the 1984 cult classic captured what it meant to be young, restless, and wonderfully confused, a new barkada is stepping into the spotlight—this time onstage, with all the charm, awkwardness, kilig, and chaos that defined a generation. And if the creative team behind Bagets The Musical is right, this revival isn’t just nostalgia—it’s a mirror held up to every era of youth.

“Coming-of-age never really stops,” shared Director Maribel Legarda during the early preview. “Whether you’re 17 or 47, there’s always that part of you trying to figure things out.”
That philosophy shapes the entire production. While the show pays tribute to the ‘80s original, it’s crafted with modern-day barkadas, helicopter parents, and TikTok-era teens in mind. The themes—friendship, self-discovery, expectations, rebellion—still hit the same, just with different hairstyles and much faster WiFi.
And in the middle of all the buzz is one casting choice that feels almost fate-driven.
Andres Muhlach Steps Into His Father’s two-colored shoes
When Andres Muhlach walked into the room for his first Bagets rehearsal, the pressure was already waiting for him.
After all, he’s taking on Adie, a role immortalized on film by his father, Aga Muhlach. But instead of shying away from comparisons, Andres embraced the challenge head-on.

“I had to study Dad’s movements—his energy, his boyish vibe—but still make it my own,” he said in a GMA interview. “There are traits of Adie from the movie that I want to honor, but I’m playing the version of him that lives in today’s world.”
To prepare, he dove into the film, interviewed family members who lived through the Manila of the ‘80s, and underwent intense vocal and choreography training.
“It was a lot of late late nights and early mornings,” he admitted. “You can’t wing this. People love Bagets. You have to earn that love.”
Production insiders shared that Andres blended surprisingly well into the cast dynamic—equal parts quiet charmer and inside-joke magnet, just like the OG Adie. It’s a performance that carries both homage and evolution: the weight of legacy without losing the brightness of youth.
Does Bagets Still Matter?
The creative team insists that Bagets The Musical isn’t simply a retro rehash. It’s a cultural check-in.
“You don’t outgrow the need to belong,” said writer Jmee Katanyag. “That’s why Bagets worked then—and why it works now.”
The mothers—formerly background characters—now have fuller storylines. Today’s audience will see parenthood through a more honest lens: ambition vs. sacrifice, connection vs. overprotection, expectations vs. empathy.

“Parents are growing up, too,” Legarda added. “Their stories deserve the spotlight.”
Meanwhile, the barkada’s world shifts between school pressures, social media façades, and the universal desire to be seen for who you truly are. Yes, the perms and mixtapes are gone, but the feelings remain familiar.
And that’s the point.
A Multi-Generation Curtain Call
What Bagets The Musical hopes to create is a shared space—one where parents who grew up on the film laugh beside their kids, each recognizing pieces of themselves in the characters.
A tale for all generations, as promised.
And if Andres Muhlach’s journey is any indication, this isn’t just a revival.
It’s a relay—passing the spirit of youth from one era to the next.
Bagets may be turning 40, but it’s far from slowing down.
