OTJ THE SERIES TO PREMIERE ON HOOQ!

HOOQ, Asia’s first and largest premium video-on-demand service, announced its first venture into orignal content production with the announcement of OTJ the series.

HOOQ today signed a landmark co-production deal with the Philippines’ number one mobile brand Globe Telecom and independent studio Reality Entertainment to produce an original mini-series based on the multi-award winning movie On the Job, or OTJ. Production of the six-episode story revolving around a hard-hitting topic in Philippine society kicks off this month.

‘It’s about time that we expand the themes that we started in the original On The Job movie,’ states award-winning director/producer Erik Matti. ‘Creating a mini-series exclusively for a video-on-demand service like HOOQ will allow us to explore unique stories that will be sure to pull in viewers who will want to get more immersed in this compelling world we’re building.’

Fans of OTJ the movie, can now catch it on HOOQ. This award winning film starring Piolo Pascual, Joel Torre and Gerald Anderson received a 2-minute standing ovation at the Cannes Film Festival in 2013. It was also screened at the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival in South Korea where it won the Jury Prize, with Joel Torre receiving the Best Actor award.

Globe Senior Advisor for Consumer Business Dan Horan also shared that, ‘this new venture strengthens our commitment to provide the best content for our customers whether they are at home or on mobile. From partnering with content producers, we have now taken the next big step to actually co-produce all original materials, and Director Erik Matti’s OTJ series is the perfect choice given its movie counterpart’s success. This collaboration stands as a strong indication of greater efforts that we will be undertaking in the near future and we can’t wait to get started!’

HOOQ will be releasing OTJ in the Philippines and internationally to its other markets such as Thailand, India and Indonesia.

‘We are so proud to be the number one paid video-on-demand service in the country with over 180,000 subscribers!’ Declared Jane Cruz-Walker, Country Manager of HOOQ Philippines. ‘We continue to hold true our promise of bringing the best of local and best of Hollywood entertainment to our customers. Today, we take that promise up a notch by venturing into original content production and we are honored to partner with such an acclaimed Filipino brand as Erik Matti’s On The Job.’

HOOQ holds the largest catalogue of Filipino content of any video-on-demand service from top local studios like GMA, Viva Communications, Regal Entertainment, and ABS-CBN. Pinoy box office hits like “One More Chance”, “My Neighbor’s Wife”, and “The Gifted” as well as popular TV series like “My Binondo Girl” and “Poor Senorita” are easily accessible to users via mobile, tablet or laptop. In the last few months, HOOQ also beefed up its independent film offerings with critically-acclaimed titles like “Zombadings”, “Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros” and “Sonata”. OTJ the movie and the new exclusive series are expected to further increase viewing for local content, which now comprises over 30% of the minutes streamed on HOOQ in the past year.
