THE Philippine Center for Gifted Education, in cooperation with the National Historical Commission of the Philippines, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts, the Cultural Center of the Philippines and Tanghalang Pilipino, awarded the 35 Filipino children and youth who have committed their lives to the ideals of Dr. Jose Rizal during the J.P.: Ang Gig Ni Rizal musical gala performance. Anne Mimille Guzman, 17, a writer and artist said all candidates had to go through a stringent screening process and seminars.
The nominees were chosen based interest and skills represented by Gardner’s multiple intelligence in the linguistic, logical-mathematical, visual-spatial, musical, bodily-kinesthetic, interpersonal and intrapersonal and naturalistic intelligence, and were selected from the following age groups: Elementary Grades 3 to 6; first year to fourth year high school; tertiary or vocational technical program and out-of-school youth enrolled in

short-term courses.
Guzman believes she was chosen because of her advocacy and willingness to learn.
“I think it is the sense of trust and willingness to listen, and be trained by adults [that made me win] because there are a lot of talented students out there but not all of them are willing to listen and be guided,” she said.
