It is that pumped-up, hyped-up feeling you get after meeting your favorite celebrity in person, witnessing an intense game live or watching the best concert you’ve ever seen— a ‘superstar’ high moment of euphoria that makes you just want to prolong those memorable events.
Since it opened last year, the SM Mall of Asia Arena has given Filipinos that superstar high from both local and international artists such as Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Aerosmith, Paramore and Nicki Minaj, and many others. The only thing missing was a venue where one can sit down, share their favorite moments with friends and let that superstar hangover cool down with some drinks and good food.
After watching the stars, eat like a star at the SuperStar Sports Grill and Bar– the newly-opened foodie hangout located at the ground floor of The Arena in the Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.
“Here, you can meet and mingle with your favorite celebrities from the sports and entertainment worlds with your date, family or friends while enjoying the exciting items on our menu,” SuperStar chairman and Chief Executive Officer Wopsy Zamora, told a group of lifestyle media during a recent lunch gathering.
The people behind the newest Sports Grill and Bar in town are a mix of SM major contractors, real-estate developers and financial experts who initially thought of the restaurant as a venue to entertain their close friends and clients, and later on decided to serve the entertainment and sports fanatics that regularly troop to The Arena to watch the major sports or entertainment events.
Besides Zamora, who is known for his audio, lighting and LED expertise, other big-name SM contractors behind the SuperStar Sports Bar, include general contractor Manny Sy, Hyundai Elevator’s Sergio Yu and noted Architect Jose Siao Ling of the Mall of Asia Arena’s design team; developers Delfin Wenceslao Jr. and Ramon Gana, finance consultant Michael Escaler and sports businessman and multi-awarded basketball coach Chot Reyes.

Longaniza Bolognese — the classic Italian pasta dish with a zesty meat sauce made with Philippine longganisa |
The 237-square-meter dining haven boasts of modern interiors and cozy ambiance complemented by an ultra-chic sports bar which opens at 10:00 pm all the way into the wee hours of the morning. It also has a posh VIP private section for small gatherings and meetings. The 98-seater main dining area can accommodate family or big-group gatherings, with an al fresco section ideal for casual fresh-air dining; and with several large-format display TVs, diners will never have to miss any of their favorite sporting events such as basketball, tennis, golf or football.
The restaurant offers grilled dishes from all over the world; from local favorites such as the chicken Inasal, Japanese Yakiniku, Korean Galbi, American BBQ, Indonesian Sate, Mediterranean Kebab, South American Churrrasco and Mexican Asado.
They also serve several tummy-filling appetizers such as the Yummy Kilawin Medley, Dynamite Cheese Sticks and the Pinoy Corned Beef Lumpia. For entrees, there’s the Thai Pomelo Salad, Japanese Kani Salad and their World’s Best Salad entrée which definitely lives up to its name.
The pasta dishes on the menu are influenced by international flavors as well. The Longaniza Bolognese, for example, is a classic Italian pasta dish with a zesty meat sauce but given a twist by the Pinoy longganisa; the Char Kway Teo, stir-fried Singaporean rice noodles blended in soy sauce and lemon; while the “To Die For” Chicken Truffle Cream Pasta, is a perfectly cooked spaghetti dish with a creamy truffle-infused sauce and chicken spikes.

Those watching events at The Arena can have the SuperStar experience with the restaurant’s 15 satellite smoking rooms inside the The Arena premises, while avid spectators whose eyes are hooked on the stage can wait for SuperStar “hawkers” to come around for a taste of their favorite products.
For a quick after-show or post-game analysis, diners can use the entrance directly from The Arena’s lobby. “No worries if you’re itching to dance or want a shot of your favorite drink in the middle of the night, as SuperStar turns into a bar late in the night, led by today’s star DJs and bands, backed by a set of high-tech equipment to give you the best nightlife ever,” says Zamora.
Even those working in offices around the vicinity can get a taste of SuperStar dishes. For as low as P180 (delivery charge already included), one can order their choice of SuperStar Meal Boxes that consist of one international grilled meat or seafood, vegetables, rice plus dessert and drinks.
