Me Grimlock! Transformers: Age of Extinction Superbowl Ad reveals new characters

Was that Hound? Galvatron? Swoop?  Grimlock!!!

Transformers fans have been abuzz after the new trailer for Transformers: Age of Extinction debuted at the Super Bowl XLVIII.

The producers have gone pre-historic in the fourquel an brings in fan favorites The Dinobots into the series. The giant dinosaur robot looks definitely like the grammatically impaired Grimlock, who transforms into a T-Rex, and often begins with “Me, Grimlock …”

We see him in the trailer with Optimus Prime astride his back, wielding a sword– weird, but I’m not complaining.

In addition to the robot dinosaur, there’s also a two-headed robot dragon (Transformers: Beast Wars?) or what could just be a twist on the pterodactyl Swoop? We also see a green-paratrooper-bot that reminds us of Hound but it could also be the new Autobot  Crosshairs who changes into a Corvette Stingray concept car.

But the biggest mystery teased by the trailer would be the main villain. With  Megatron dead (again) the new bot could very well be his reincarnation Galvatron.

Besides the new robots, Age of Extinction also introduces an entirely new human cast and is set four years after the invasion of Chicago.  We get to met Cade Yaeger (Mark Wahlberg) a mechanic, and his daughter Tessa Yaeger (Nicola Peletz). Just like Sam, the two come accross alien technology that attracts the attention of Autobots, Decepticons, and Harold Attinger a shrewd government official played by Kelsey Grammer.

Completing the cast are Jack Reynor as Shane Dyson, Tessa’s race car driving boyfriend, Stanley Tucci as Joshua, designer who wants to build his own robots, and Sophia Myles as Darcy, Joshua’s geologist assistant.

The only returning Autobots are Optimus Prime, who will now be transforming into a Western Star 4900 semi-truck and Bumblebee, a 1967 Camaro who should be upgraded to the 2014 model in the film.

Making their big screen debut are Autobot Hound (Oskkosh Defense Medium Tactical Vehicle) Crosshairs (2014 Corvette Stingray) and Drift, (2013 Bugatti Veyron Gran Sport Vitesse)

As for the  Decepticons, there’s Lockdown (2013 Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 Coupe) Stinger (2013 Pagani Huayra), and Cyclonus whose transformation has yet to be revealed.

Transformers: Age of Extinction is set to premiere in June 2014 and will be distributed by Solar United International Pictures.
