Taking better Instagram photos means practicing all the time. I remember posting my very first photo four years ago when I was still in Abu Dhabi. It was a rectangular colorful panel I saw at Corniche Beach beside Seattle’s Best coffee.

It was bad, I mean really bad even if it was just taken from my phone’s camera. I didn’t use any app like Snapseed to saturate, accentuate or give glow to your photos, nor did I think using an app was necessary. I just thought it was interesting so I took a photo and posted it.

But as the years passed, and after following the Instagram accounts of people who take really good photos, I realized that taking photos requires at least a decent amount of effort.

Looking back at my first photos made me kinda feel ashamed of ever posting them, (at least I could look back and see how much I’ve improved) I dread the way I posted them because it was either shaky, out of focus or blurred images. Now that I’m a full time blogger, I’m constantly searching for photographers/instagrammers who have really nice pictures and try to learn from them. Three of my current favorites are Jelito de Leon, Kookie Buhain and Kimi Juan, and they all have clean and interesting feeds.13016789_10154782748619148_1662233516_o
A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to attend Sony’s Photography Fair and was able to participate in Jelito de Leon’s workshop at Fully Booked BGC. During the event, I learned that he uses Snapseed for his images before uploading them. For “flatlays,” he showed us how to curate the perfect flatlay and balance out larger items with extremely small ones to create some scale and to keep harmony between colors.12965956_10154782748294148_2070450640_n
