Regine Velasquez adds Alcasid to her name The Songbird talks about married life, babies and playing drag

ASIA’S Songbird has now changed her official screen name to Regine Velasquez-Alcasid to reflect her married status.
“It was actually my decision,” she proudly stated, adding, “hindi ko naman tinanggal yung Velasquez, so my name just got a bit longer.” The newly married star first used the Alcasid name when she made her return to the Sunday noontime variety show Party Pilipinas in mid-January.
At the press conference of her upcoming primetime show IYYou Pare (read: I Heart You Pare), at the Boiler Room at Riverbanks, Marikina City, it was quite evident that Regine was truly enjoying marital bliss. She married singer-songwriter-comedian Ogie Alcasid on December 22, 2010 at Nasugbu, Batangas, although they had admitted to living together previously.
“A few months after we got engaged we lived together na,” Regine recounted, “that’s why there was no more adjustment period for us. Feeling ko lang, parang mas… Ang saya-saya kasi parang mas in love pa ako! We never felt any changes, Para kaming mag-boyfriend-girlfriend pa rin, but it’s become even deeper now that we’re married.”
As for Ogie, Regine says her husband has become more conscious of her. “Parang mas lagi niyang tinitingnan kung ok ako. Nata-touch naman ako.” Regine admits it even makes her feel guiltier now that she’s back to work on the new show with Dingdong Dantes.
“I talk to him and try to make lambing. I also try to cook for him but I apologize din kasi hindi ko siya naaalagaan. But he’s very understanding. Minsan magda-drama lang ‘yan, ‘Oo nga kawawa naman ako.’ Buti na lang very understanding ang asawa ko,” Regine narrated.
She also talked about their plans to have a baby. She said that while they want to have a little one soon, she doesn’t want to put a timeframe on their goal. “I don’t want to put pressure on both of us.” Maybe after IYYou Pare, we can finally go on honeymoon.”
Regine clarified there were restrictions from the network regarding her becoming pregnant. “It’s my personal choice to be disciplined because if I do get pregnant during the show, I’ll also be the one who will have the hard time. I don’t want to fail the show. I don’t want to fail my friends, especially Dingdong This is our first team-up so we want to really make it big and we want the working relationship to work.”
She further said that she and Ogie are open to the possibility of using science to help her conceive.
“We’re open to that. We have to be realistic. But it will still be up to God if he wants us to give us a child.”
Did Ogie have any conditions or limitations when she accepted IYYou Pare? “No naman,” she quickly replied. “He’s not like that. He also knows that I don’t like that as well, although there are times when he would talk to me and remind me na may asawa ka na ha, but he’s very supportive. ” We understand each other naman because we’re in the same business.”
February 7 marks the premiere of IYYou Pare on the GMA Kapuso Network. The show is a refreshingly out of the ordinary primetime offering that features the first primetime TV pairing of Regine Velasquez-Alcasid and Dingdong Dantes.
Regine plays the role of Tonya/Tonette, a conservative, reserved probinsyana who crosses paths with the carefree, impulsive Kenneth played by Dantes. One fateful night after meeting in a bar, Tonya and Kenneth share drinks, stories and an accidental kiss. They part ways by some some weird twist of fate the two meet again—this time with Tonya posing as the gay Tonette in the bar the Kenneth was hired to manage.
“At first I thought I was ready for the role of Tonette,” Regine said, “kasi babaeng bakla na ako. But as it turns out, delivering your lines as someone who is really gay is quite different.
“But I’m enjoying my role naman.” In this series you’ll see both the flashy and colorful world of gays and drag queens, as well as the dramatic stories behind all the laughter and performances.
IYYou Pare also stars Tirso Cruz 3rd, Marc Abaya, Via Antonio, Ian Veneracion, Luane Dy, Ehra Madrigal, Butz Aquino, Paolo Ballesteros, Peter Serrano and Celia Rodriguez. The series is directed by Andoy Ranay and Bb. Joyce Bernal together with Denoy Navarro-Punio as headwriter.
