Ambition: That strong desire and eagerness to accomplish something. Anyone who has ever created anything, given this world any value, or simply aspired to greater heights, had to have a certain ambitious quality in their personality.
Ambition like love is impatient, but it is also like a lust that is never quenched and grows more inflamed and madder by enjoyment.
As much a I hate to admit it, ambition was something I actually never had.
Of course I wanted to be rich, famous and all of that stuff, but
I simply had no idea what I’d want to do to eventually get there.
When I was just starting my career and looking for my first job, one of the questions I dreaded was “How do you see yourself in five years?”

When I was just starting my career and looking for my first job, one of the questions I dreaded was “How do you see yourself in five years?”
It seemed like a trick question, and something I found really hard to answer. If I was applying in a big company I’d say, I see myself getting regularly promoted because of my performance. Or I’d tell them about my potential and my goals, and how I’d like to grow with the company–even though I doubted the company would last that long.
But my biggest problem with the question was, I didn’t even know where or what I’d like to be doing in the next five days, or months.

All I wanted back then was to find a high paying job, get a regular paycheck and hopefully buy a lot of stuff along the way.
I had graduated with a degree in Business Administration, but working a 9 to 5 job at a bank was out of the question. I wanted something simple, maybe even clerical, I didn’t mind if it was going to be repetitive and dull, I was still young after all, and I just didn’t want to be a bum.
After a few jobs, however, I realized I wasn’t really going anywhere, I still didn’t know what I wanted to do, nor had any semblance of ambition. All I knew is that i wanted to be rich–whatever it takes.
I used to envy people who had a lot of money, owned a lot of stuff and went to a lot of places, but as I grew older, I realized the one thing they had which I was still searching for was ambition.

“The man who starts out simply with the idea of getting rich won’t succeed, you must have a larger ambition.”
– John D Rockefeller
