Human Nature and Gawad Kalinga hold ‘100 and Rising: Goodness Rising Zumba House Party’

Slated from 4PM to 6PM at the covered courts of the Quezon Memorial Circle, the event celebrated the gains of the “Goodness Rising” project while helping build more homes for Yolanda survivors. It featured 9 of the country’s top ZINs led by ZIN Natalia Uy-Chan.

All of the proceeds from the event went to Human Nature’s “Goodness Rising” project. A partnership between Human Nature and Gawad Kalinga (GK), the project started with Human Nature employees’ desire to help Yolanda-devastated areas in the Visayas in any way they could.

Formally launched on December 7, 2013 with the “Shop for a Cause” shopping drive, Goodness Rising set out to build a whole GK village in Brgy. Tambulilid in Ormoc, Leyte. GK is a movement that aims to end poverty for 5 million families by 2024.

The target of Goodness Rising, which required at least 15 million pesos in funding, was no mean feat for Gandang Kalikasan Inc., the social enterprise behind the Human Nature brand. Some employees decided to pledge all or part of their 13th month, overtime pay, food allowances, incentives and even next year’s salary increases for Goodness Rising. Small fundraising activities and events were also planned – all in the hopes of raising enough funds.

Goodness Rising proves that no act of kindness is insignificant. Human Nature employees, dealers, and advocates, have raised funds that will enable the building of over 100 homes, a school, and a multi-purpose hall for residents of Brgy. Tambulilid.

Buoyed by the success of the last six months, Human Nature and GK is building more houses in a second Yolanda-battered site: in Barangay Cadiz Viejo, Cadiz, Negros Occidental. The Negros Occidental beneficiaries are mostly fisher folks who will be relocated to a safer area in Cadiz Viejo. A 4-hectare land outside the buffer zone set by the government has been allotted for their homes, while another 4-hectare area will serve as their place for livelihood and dock for their fishing boats.
