Epson Philippines Reinforces Long-Term Commitment Through a Tree Nurturing Activity in Masungi Georeserve’s Legacy Trail

What kind of legacy are we leaving behind? That was the central question during a recent trek through the Masungi Georeserve with Epson Philippines. While many see reforestation as a one-day photo opportunity, Epson’s participation in the Legacy Trail activities emphasized a critical shift in perspective: the move from “tree planting” to “tree nurturing.”

The Masungi Georeserve is nestled within the Sierra Madre, the country’s largest mountain range. This majestic landscape serves as more than just a scenic backdrop; it is our primary shield, protecting Luzon from severe weather, sustaining vital biodiversity, and supporting the livelihoods of surrounding communities. However, safeguarding such a massive ecosystem requires a long-term strategy that extends well beyond a single visit.

Recognizing this, the day’s activities centered on the concept of tree nurturing—an approach that prioritizes ongoing care, consistent monitoring, and protection. Unlike traditional planting, nurturing focuses on improving survival rates and supporting natural forest regeneration over time. Guided by Masungi’s dedicated park rangers, we were immersed in practical reforestation methods, seeing firsthand how consistent stewardship—rather than a one-off effort—strengthens the resilience of our environment.

The trail itself bears a name that reflects this philosophy. The “Legacy Trail” represents the hope that every visitor carries forward the knowledge and responsibility gained within the reserve. It serves as a powerful reminder that conservation does not conclude at the end of a hike; it is a continuous act of stewardship that must be reflected in the daily choices we make and the communities we influence.

The principle of continuity closely aligns with Epson’s own presence in the Philippines. For five decades, the company has built long-term partnerships while advancing innovation guided by its global “Engineered for Good” campaign. The framework underscores Epson’s belief that meaningful progress is achieved through consistent, measurable action sustained over time.

Masako Kusama, President and Director of Epson Philippines, emphasized this perspective.

“Tree nurturing reminds us that progress requires patience and responsibility,” Kusama said. “Through the Engineered for Good campaign, we remain committed to actions that create lasting value. We believe that building a legacy means continuing the work long after the moment has passed.”

The experience along the Legacy Trail reinforced a shared understanding between Epson and its partners that impact is not defined by scale alone, but by commitment that endures.

To commemorate the day, participants received special caps from New Era Cap Philippines crafted with REPREVE® recycled fiber, a material made by transforming post-consumer plastic into durable textile. By repurposing existing resources and reducing reliance on virgin materials, the caps reflected the same principle of responsible production introduced along the trail.

The caps serve as a practical reminder of the responsibility carried forward. Just as tree nurturing requires sustained care beyond planting, environmental stewardship calls for continued action beyond a single experience. Through partnerships and steady engagement, Epson remains committed to supporting efforts that strengthen ecosystems and help carry the Legacy forward.
