Save & Share Blog Series2

Again, the Electrolux Save & Share Blog Series is part of the Electrolux Delightful-E simple campaign which aims to help moms save not just money but also their precious time by making their everyday tasks delightfully simple and easy. It is a web series hosted by 10 of the top entertainment and lifestyle bloggers in the country where they get to ask Electrolux brand ambassadors Cheska Garcia Kramer, Chef Rosebud Benitez, Chef Bruce Lim and Mommy Mundo’s Janice Villanueva about creative yet effective ways to save household expenses and sharing blessings to others.

With Christmas just a month or so away, there is no better way to finish this series by focusing on the true meaning of the season- giving.  For those who have small kids clothes can be the easiest ones to donate since children usually receive  a lot more than they could use and quickly outgrow them. My brother Mike was in a similar predicament as his son Calvin was growing up so fast and was still getting gifts from his godmothers that were already a size smaller. He on the other hand had lost some weight and had been replacing his wardrobe with more formal work clothes. So we asked Electrolux ambassadors Chef Rosebud and wonder mom Janice Villanueva for some tips.

1. One of the most common obstacles in donating clothes is choosing which ones to donate. Do you have tips for people who are challenged by this? Is this a good way to declutter? Janice Crisostomo-Villanueva

Janice: On my yearly purging session, I set up four boxes and mark them SELL, KEEP, DONATE, GIVE AWAY. At the end of the day the goal is to have very little in the keep box, and the most in the donate or give away box. (The giveaway box is for items that family or friends may want or benefit from)

When I do these sessions, I consciously go into the day trying to be detached from things and with the end goal in mind: to make room. The first batches are difficult but after some time, I go into ruthless phase and just drop things in the boxes with no looking back.

Some Tips:
– Clothes- I often find pieces in my closet that I never wear but I keep because I say I will wear them soon. Now if I haven’t worn them in the past year, I get rid of them.
– When done, just close the boxes and seal with tape. Don’t go through the boxes anymore because it will might make you think of keeping them again.
– Keep the kids away when purging because they like rummaging through boxes and bringing things back to their shelves especially when the items hold memories for them.Chef Rosebud Benitez-Velasco

Chef Rosebud:
I guess one thing that we have to think of when we donate clothes is if the clothes we’ll be donating would be appropriate for other people to wear. For example, we shouldn’t give away old gowns, trench coats, heavy sweaters just so we can remove them from our cabinets because obviously, they’re not appropriate for other people to wear daily.

How important is it to segregate clothes when donating?
Janice: For me, not really important but I do it anyway because eventually whether they are in the Sell, donate r giveaway boxes, it will be easier to dispose if sorted.

Chef Rosebud: It’s important so that it’ll be easier to give it to people we’ll be donating to.

Well, that’s it for now, I do hope you enjoyed our save and share series, we’ll be sharing more tips so be sure to keep checking back! Thank you also to Electrolux for including us in this series, it was fun getting to meet their ambassadors and chatting with them.
