Donate your old phones and get a chance to win an iPad Air with Globe Project 1Phone

Help create a wonderful Aklan and a greener Globe by joining Project 1 Phone and you might even win an IPad Air!

Project 1 Phone is an e-waste recovery and recycling program to ensure that e-wastes such as mobile phones don’t end up in landfills. The program aims to recover and recycle electronic wastes (e-wastes), specifically mobile phones and portable devices such as tablets, so we can:

a. Promote proper disposal of mobile phones and other electronic wastes (e-wastes).
b. Educate people about the potential harm that cell phones can have on our environment and the significant benefits to recycling an old cell phone.

Recycling old phones have other benefits. Precious metals and plastics are recovered for re-manufacture. By recycling, less energy is used than mining virgin metals and producing virgin plastics. We also save on landfill space.

You can do your share by donating your old phones for recycling at any of the participating Globe stores. All proceeds from recycling these old phones will go to rebuilding schools in Aklan that were affected by typhoon Yolanda.

Each donated device entitles you to one raffle entry. A monthly raffle draw will be held, and one lucky winner will get an iPad Air!

Project 1 Phone is part of Globe’s continuing effort to rebuild the nation after Typhoon Yolanda, and its commitment to sustainability. Project 1 Phone, a call for good.

For Project 1 Phone Globe has tapped global electronic waste recycling specialist TES-AMM. Formed in 2005, TES-AMM combines state-or-the-art technology with in-depth knowledge of environment and waste management techniques to provide reuse solutions and recovery of precious metals from end-of-life electronics such as computers, cell phones, peripherals, television sets, among others. It is headquartered in Singapore with facilities in other parts of Asia, Oceania, Americas, Europe, Middle East, and Africa.

“Being the first in Asia to receive certification on Responsible Recycling (R2), we are confident that TES-AMM through its local arm TES-AMM Philippines, would be able to deliver the lowest environmental impact without compromising health and safety and therefore, concretize Globe Telecom’s commitment to sustainability,” said Yoly Crisanto, SVP of Globe Corporate Communications.

Globe is currently encouraging everyone to participate in Project 1 Phone by donating their unusable mobile phones and portable devices via donation bins available at all participating Globe Stores in various parts of the country (for the complete list, please visit the Globe Telecom website www.globe.com.ph/project1phone).

All collected units and accessories shall be turned over to TES-AMM Philippines for proper recycling and recovery. No phones or accessories collected will be refurbished for resale or cannibalized for usable parts.

Old cell Phones and their batteries have toxic components such as arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury as well as plastic parts which usually have brominated flame retardant which are all toxic when released to the environment. If thrown improperly, these can pollute the environment and cause harmful effects to one’s health.
