CANON REVEALS 2016 CAMERA LINEUP, EOS M10, PowerShot G3 X, G5 X and G9 X

Canon Marketing Philippines opened the year with several surprises as it launched its latest line of compact cameras at a media event held at Single Origins including EOS M10, Powershot 3G X, G5 X and G9 X.

EOS M10

Pairing superior image quality associated with an EOS DSLR with the convenience of a point-and-shoot compact, the chic design and light weight (approximately 301 grams) of the EOS M10 makes it the perfect companion for Filipinos today who love creativity while keeping everything in style.

The EOS M10 is paired with the new, compact EF-M15-45 mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens. Equipped with a tilt-type LCD touchscreen that extends to 180 degrees, the EOS M10 has an intuitive user interface that also enables selfies from different angles. Photographers also benefit from an enhanced user experience with its Creative Assist editing capabilities and connectivity features.

Smart design for fun and seamless self-portraits
The intuitive and user-friendly 3.0’’ touchscreen LCD enables quick and direct access to functions, allowing users to change camera settings such as shutter speed and aperture at the tap of the screen. The EOS M10 introduces features that enhance image quality for taking creative and convenient self-portraits. When the LCD screen is angled to 180 degrees, a shortcut option to activate the self-portrait mode enables quick adjustments to parameters for taking the best selfies – brightness, smooth skin effect, background defocus, flash and self-timer.

Have fun with the EOS M10’s Creative Assist feature, consisting of a series of six sliders such as Blur /Sharpen (Aperture), Darker/Brighter (Exposure), Cool/Warm (White Balance) that enables even the new photographer creative control of their pictures and the fun of experimenting. Users can easily make adjustments and see the effect of these settings on the images, providing amateur photographers with a keener appreciation for photography.
High performance in stylish slim form
Modern technology has made waves with the advent of mobile devices that we carry around for daily organization. The EOS M10 complements this lifestyle with Canon’s imaging technology to deliver superior quality images, which may be challenging to achieve with non-dedicated imaging devices.
Powered by the advanced Canon DIGIC 6, the processor handles images quietly at swift speed and ensures high speed processing with low power consumption. Paired with the 18.0-megapixel CMOS sensor, high-resolution and clarity in images will stand out. Even in dim lighting, the high ISO speed performance from 100 – 12800 on the EOS M10 will capture rich colors and details.
The enhanced Hybrid CMOS AF II system uses a combination of phase-difference detection AF and traditional Contrast AF for focusing and tracking subjects with precision. The EOS M10 uses an APS-C sized sensor, commonly used in the EOS DSLR range of cameras. The larger sensor size powerfully captures more light during exposure, ensuring higher image quality typically associated with DSLR cameras. 

New EF-M15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM lens
The new EOS M10 features three lens kits, offering users more options and access into the world of EOS interchangeable lenses. All three kits feature the new EF-M15-45mm f/3.5 – 6.3 IS STM lens available in Graphite and Silver.
With a lens retraction mechanism, the EF-M15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM is the lightest, most portable, and compact standard EF-M zoom lens at just about 130 grams. With a focal length equivalent to 24mm – 72mm on a full frame, it produces high quality images favorable for travel, landscape, and even everyday moments. The Stepping Motor (STM) technology ensures silent and smooth AF especially during movie recording.
A Sleeker EF-M55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM lens in Silver
The second bundle includes the reintroduction of the EF-M55-200mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM lens for telephoto coverage, which will feature a sleek, silver finish.
The third bundle features the EF-M15-45mm f/3.5-6.3 IS STM and the ultra compact moderate wide-angle EF-M22mm f/2 STM pancake lens for landscape photography.

PowerShot G3 X

the PowerShot G3 X, a new premium high-zoom digital compact camera in the PowerShot G series. The camera is powered by a large 1.0-inch CMOS sensor, enabling the camera to achieve superior image quality even in low light environments. The camera features a 24-600mm 25x optical zoom lens and improved Zoom Framing Assist, which opens up a new range of imaging possibilities. Users can expect enhanced movie recording through the camera’s improved Dynamic Image Stabilisation (IS) system, a technology that stabilizes moving images.

New zoom lens developed from EF lens technology
The prowess of the large 1.0 inch type CMOS sensor on PowerShot G3 X, complemented by Canon’s new cutting-edge zoom lens, enhances image quality and maximizes performance. Derived from Canon’s EF lens technology, the PowerShot G3 X is designed to deliver stunning image quality even in high speed shooting scenarios, with its high quality lens fast auto focus capability.

The second lens group is equipped with IS for optical image stabilization. Three UD lens elements and four aspherical lens elements are used in the construction of the lens. The combination of these components provides excellent aberration correction over the entire 25x zoom range, resulting in optimal image quality.

Powering the zoom is a high-speed and quiet Micro USM II (UltraSonic Motor), providing the user with the possibility of high speed focusing on a moving subject, while maintaining smooth oper
ation for high quality video and sound recordings with minimal noise disruption.

Greater usability for users of all levels
Canon’s improved Zoom Framing Assist Auto Function automatically detects changes in the size of a subject’s face in the frame, distance from subject, and even the number of subjects based on the camera’s movement. The PowerShot G3 X automatically calibrates the zoom distance to achieve optimal framing to the appropriate subject size based on those parameters. With this function, users can be confident that their pictures will be nicely framed, especially in situations when pictures are taken by users unfamiliar with their camera equipment. Zoom Framing Assist Auto is a convenient feature available in both still photo and video modes.

Advanced users will benefit from the PowerShot G3 X’s bulb exposure feature, which makes it perfectly suited for usage in any situation where long exposure is required (e.g. fireworks). Bulb exposure enables the camera’s shutter to remain open as long as the shutter button is held down. This allows users to adjust their own shutter timing, and capture great looking shots of fireworks as the light trails will be perfectly captured.

Creating movies with Dynamic IS
The numerous new movie specific features such as the improved Dynamic IS makes the PowerShot G3 X Canon’s game changer for recording movies in the compact camera segment. Dynamic IS has five axes of movement, including horizontal and vertical rotation that corrects strong and fast shaking movement that occurs while moving and shooting videos. With Dynamic IS, the PowerShot G3 X is primed to deliver high quality and smooth video footage on-the-go.

Users who have an artistic flair will also enjoy the PowerShot G3 X’s new story highlights function. With story highlights, users can easily put together their very own movie clip using previously captured still images and video clips shot in Hybrid Auto Mode. Additionally, users can choose from three mood-enhancing soundtracks to be used as background music for their customized video clip.

The PowerShot G3 X also enables users to shoot 4-second video clips with the short movie function, and have the option to apply slow-motion or fast-motion effects. Users will be able to control the sound, aperture, and ISO speeds for desired expression in manual movie mode.

The PowerShot G5 X, PowerShot G9 X

Designed with the ease of photographer in mind, the cameras feature new optimized button layout on the user interface. The touch screen complements the control ring around the lens for easy adjustments to camera settings such as ISO speed, aperture and focus.

The PowerShot G5 X is first G Series model with a 2.36 million dot OLED EVF for focused composition while the PowerShot G9 X is a powerful camera packed in a slim design reminiscent of a traditional camera.

Superb image quality

The PowerShot G series is associated with high image quality approaching the EOS line of DSLR cameras. The powerful high sensitivity CMOS sensor along with proprietary DIGIC 6 image processor creates Canon’s high-sensitivity (HS) system to provide photographers with high performance point-and-shoot cameras in varied lighting conditions. The high ISO speed of 12800 produces expressive images with beautiful contrast and crisp details even when shooting in low light situations.

The PowerShot G5 X uses a 24-100mm (35mm equivalent) 4.2x optical zoom lens, while the PowerShot G9 X uses a 28-84mm (35mm equivalent) 3x optical zoom lens providing the casual user with sufficient coverage in varied shooting scenarios This versatile range covers wide-angle shots for group photography, in tight enclosed spaces and telephoto range to get closer to distant subjects.

The circular 9-blade composition and large apertures of f/1.8 and f/2.0 on the PowerShot G5 X and G9 X respectively, enables beautiful bokeh (blurred background) effects in macro photography.

Heightened visibility with EVF
A first in the PowerShot G series line, the PowerShot G5 X is equipped with a built-in EVF, that has a high resolution of 2.36 million dot similar to the colour gamut from a computer monitor (sRGB). With rich colour fidelity, photographers will find greater enjoyment focusing on image composition.

With the EVF, photographers can be confident about the final images taken as the EVF reflects exactly what is seen by the camera sensor and thus reflecting a true image representation of what the photographer sees.
The EVF was optimally designed with the eye point of 22 mm to ensure comfort even for bespectacled users. The exceptional clarity of the EVF and high speed display mode for moving subjects offers users a highly accurate preview of the final composition with minimal discrepancies in colour.

When shooting in a bright environment, the EVF gives clear visibility as it is not affected by glare. When the EVF is in operation, the perceptive system automatically disables the LCD screen. This makes it convenient for the photographer to shoot discreetly in a dark environment such as a concert hall or museums, as the EVF makes it possible to shoot confidently without the use of the LCD screen. The PowerShot G5 X also offers the flexibility of shooting from the vari-angle touchscreen LCD for selfies, creative low or high angle shots.

Slim line PowerShot G9 X for powerful imaging on the go
With a streamlined compact design and weighing approximately 209 grams, the pocket-sized yet powerful PowerShot G9 X is the lightest and most compact camera in the PowerShot G series range to date and perfect for everyday usage. Reminiscent of classic cameras with bold lines, the leather-like trim frame the sides of the camera, emphasising contrast in surface details while providing users with a firm grip when shooting.
The simplicity of its design carries over to its operability, with a control ring to complement the touch panel. Between these two elements, a user can easily control the camera settings and make adjustments quickly and efficiently.
In both the PowerShot G5 X and G9 X, the bulb exposure feature provides the user with greater control over shutter timings, which can be highly useful when capturing the light trails of cars, fireworks and night scenes. The new Auto ND Filter ensures that the appropriate brightness is achieved enabling the photographer to focus on capturing the moment in different situations.

Creative expressions with Advanced Movie Functions
Adept at creative avenues of expressions, the cameras are equipped with movie editing functions for richer storytelling with the ability to record 1080p Full HD videos (at 24p and up to 60p in MP4 format).

Story Highlights automatically chooses a series of photos or clips and puts them together with effects, automated editing and even background music for a more lively dimension. The Short Clip Movie feature on both cameras helps photographers capture a series of 4 to 6-seconds movie snippets with different play back speeds – normal-speed, fast motion, action replay or slow motion for stylistic effects.

Sharing your pictures anytime and anywhere
The PowerShot G5 X and G9 X are equipped with Wi-Fi and NFC for easy sharing of photos from between compatible cameras, smart devices, Canon Connect Station CS100 and Canon iMAGE GATEWAY (CiG).
In addition, the Canon Camera Connect app allows users to remotely control camera functions such as zoom, focus, shutter speed, ISO, aperture, and aspect ratio via their smart devices. This is particularly useful for group pictures, in tight spaces where unusual angles are required or shooting nature from a safer distance. For the first time in the PowerShot G Series line, alongside charging via the battery charger supplied, the convenience of in-camera USB charging is now also available and thus giving users more options in ensuring their cameras are always powered up.
