While Marvel has dominated the Cinematic Universe, ( and will probably continue to do so, unless that upcoming BATMAN vs SUPERMAN turns out to be “Super”) DC has done a very good job when it comes to TV and Animated series.. Although I have a lot of catching up to do with Arrow and Flash series the reviews have consistently been positive so its not surprising that the producers have continued to expand the “Arrowverse.” Thats why I had a lot of expectations when they first announced DC Legends of Tomorrow.
Legends of Tomorrow is the new show on Warner TV that brings together a group of unlikely heroes against an immortal supervillain and throws in time travel to the mix— but does this new show really have what it takes to achieve “legendary” status?
After watching the premiere episode, its clear that the series avoids comic source material and instead branches out from the story lines and appearances made by the characters from their appearances in Arrowerse.

Its a sort of a Justice League, but without any of the “Super Seven” (Superman, Batman, Wonderwoman, GreenLantern, Flash, Aquaman, MartianManhunter or Cyborg) instead we get a group of lesser known names like Hawkman and Hawkgirl, Atom, FireStorm, White Canary, career criminals Captain Cold and Heatwave and time traveler Rip Hunter.
In the year 2166, the immortal villain Vandal Savage (recurring guest star CASPER CRUMP) is on the verge of his final victory – total chaos and the utter destruction of humanity. As the world crumbles, the Time Master Rip Hunter (series star ARTHUR DARVILL) takes matters into his own hands; he travels 150 years into the past to assemble a carefully selected team of heroes and rogues, who together will be… Legends.
Hunter has chosen what seems like an ill-matched group: billionaire inventor Ray Palmer ( BRANDON ROUTH), who has created an exo-suit with the power to shrink him to miniscule size, as the Atom; Sara Lance ( CAITY LOTZ), the White Canary, a trained assassin; Professor Martin Stein ( VICTOR GARBER) and Jefferson “Jax” Jackson ( FRANZ DRAMEH), who together form the meta-human Firestorm; Leonard Snart (WENTWORTH MILLER), known as Captain Cold, and his partner Mick Rory ( DOMINIC PURCELL), aka Heat Wave, a pair of career criminals; and Kendra Saunders ( CIARA RENÉE) and Carter Hall ( FALK HENTSCHEL), who are really Hawkgirl and Hawkman, two souls who have been reincarnated many times, and who possess the ability to fly… and have a spiritual connection to Vandal Savage.
Convinced by Hunter to join him in the fight to defeat Savage, the group travels back and forth through time to try to stop Savage’s plans from being set into motion, while Hunter struggles to keep to his duty as a Time Master and avoid irreparable damage to the timeline of history. The fate of the world is in the hands of this unlikely team, and the battle to save the earth will be… legendary.
From the creators of Warner TV’s other hit superhero series – The Flash and ARROW – comes DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, forming the world’s greatest assemble for humankind’s ultimate battle.

DC’s Legends of Tomorrow is a sister-series to The Flash and ARROW, developed by Greg Berlanti. The show opens with time-travelling rogue, Time Master Rip Hunter, played by Arthur Darvill (Doctor Who), in the year 2166. Hunter sees the immortal Vandal Savage (played by Casper Crump) on the verge of his final victory – bringing total chaos and the utter destruction. This abomination pushes Hunter to take matters into his own hands and travels 150 years into the past to assemble a team of carefully-selected heroes and rogues to stop Savage.
The 16-episode series features a combination of characters and even villains from The Flash and ARROW, along with new heroes from the DC Comics pantheon.
With recurring roles in both The Flash and ARROW, Brandon Routh (Superman Returns) reprises his role as the billionaire inventor Ray Palmer a.k.a The Atom, who created an exo-suit with the power to shrink himself to miniscule size. Also reprising her role as the trained assassin Sara Lance a.k.a White Canary in the ARROW-verse is Caity Lotz (Death Valley, The Pact).
Prison Break’s famous duo Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell reunites as Leonard Snart a.k.a Captain Cold and his partner Mick Rory a.k.a. Heat Wave, who comprise a pair of career criminals.

Forming the meta-human Firestorm are Victor Garber (Titanic, Alias) as Professor Martin Stein and Franz Drameh (Edge of Tomorrow) as Jefferson “Jax” Jackson. While Kendra Saunders a.k.a. Hawkgirl and Carter Hall a.k.a. Hawkman are played by Ciara Renée and Falk Hentschel, respectively.
The first episode does show a lot of promise (and explosions,) but it does cram bit too much in the pilot making it bit too overwhelming and exhausting. Captain Cold and Heatwave, despite being the criminals are the most entertaining and Cold’s obvious flirtations with White Canary is going to be interesting. I just hope that instead of just chasing Savage through time, we also get to know more about each of the characters back story. They got some really good actors there and it would be a shame not to give them some of the spotlight or an episode of their own.
