You are probably thinking why I’m doing this feature during the rainy season when buying an air conditioner may not sound less practical. But when you are living in a tropical country such as hours where its always hot the whole year round, having an airconditioner has become an essential home appliance– and besides since fewer people are buying airconditioners during this season, you might even get good deals and lower prices!
It’s become more of a necessity than a luxury and since you are probably gonna spend a lot of money, might as well choose the right one for you to save on electrical bills and get something that will last you for years to come. Believe it or not I bought my airconditioner way back in 2004 and its still working!
So how do you choose the right airconditioner for you? Here are a few things to remember.
1. Know the Types of AC units: There are several types of aircon units for your home. The most common of which is the Window Type; its the easiest to install and the most affordable which makes it the most popular choice for single rooms. the only downside is unless you have a ready space, you might need to tear down a section of your wall or ruin a window to install it. Next is the Split Type which is getting more popular nowadays. Its bigger and more difficult to install and also more expensive. The third one is the Portable type which are the free standing units you probably see in banks or office. The advantage is that you can move it around, but its not advisable for smaller rooms or residential units as some say these units are less efficient.

2. Check the Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) – Its the sticker attached to the Aircon unit and displays the ratio of AC unit’s cooling output. Generally the higher the EER, the more efficient the air conditioner.
3. Measure the rooms to be cooled– This is one that is often overlooked but is actually the most crucial factor when buying an aircon. Measure the space or the room you are using it in and ask the staff for the appropriate HP you need. A unit with too high of a cooling capacity for the space can turn off and on too often while buying a unit with a lower HP will have difficulty cooling the room. If your room is small say 10sqm. maybe a unit with .5HP is best for you but if your area is bigger say 20sqm or more you might want to get something with 1HP or higher.
For a more detailed estimate, you might also want to take these factors into consideration–such as ceiling height, (the traditional height is 8-ft) Sunlight–maybe your room is facing the sun most of the day which makes it even hotter, and the number of people that regularly occupy the room.
4. Seek advice and feedback. If you are reading this article, then good for you. Just like buying any appliance, its a good idea to ask for recommendations and read reviews and model comparisons from relatives or reliable consumer sites. Don’t be swayed by fancy advertisements and suave sales talk from the staff. Its best to check out the available options first and do a bit of research.
5. Check out the Extra Features. Regardless of what brand you are buying, the only purpose of the airconditioner is to cool your room and if it does its job then good for you. But its also worth considering the little extras. Im not fond of those which require remote controls, but if you are placing it a bit high then remote controlled units are probably best for you. Some have air purifying properties and recently I discovered one which as a built in anti-mosquito function.
The KE inverter Split Type Air Conditioner Series from TCL comes with the Mosqui-Go feature, a mosquito repellent function on top of its standard inverter features. This revolutionary technology utilizes a built-in ultrasonic mosquito repelling device, proven to be effective in keeping mosquitoes away. Similar to its basic inverter line features, the KE Series boasts of high-quality Full SD DC components that employ the use of magnetic force in varying the rotation speed of the compressor. This provides a precise method of maintaining the set temperature, which in turn, effectively reduces power consumption by up to 60-70% at an optimal temperature setting.
Moreover, the KE Series uses R410a refrigerant-providing cooling comfort for every household without compromising health and environmental safety. Unlike other refrigerants, R410a has Zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP), which means it poses no harm towards the Earth’s ozone layer. Equipped with gold-plated louver fins, the KE Series is designed to prevent and withstand extreme rust and corrosion; thus, assuring a longer product life. On top of that, this series is also packed with 5-in-1 health filters for safe and healthy breathable indoor air that truly cares for you, your family, and the environment.
Go environment friendly. Because of climate change we all should do our part in helping save the environment unfortunately air conditioners also contribute to that problem. TCL recently introduced its ”Comfort without Compromise” campaign geared towards providing cooling comfort for every family without compromising health and environmental safety.
TCL’s latest series of R410a air conditioners is its response to the emerging ozone depletion problems. . The TCL F Series Window Type air conditioners are the newest addition to TCt’s premium selection of TitanGold alr canditioners. Unlike its preceding series, the F Series is more environmental friendly since it employs the use of R4103 refrigerant. R410a has zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP), which means it poses no harm towards the Earth’s ozone layer.
The F Series boasts of exceptional state-of-the-art panel designs that will surely complement any corner of your home. Equipped with gold-plated louver fins, the F Series is designed to prevent and withstand extreme rust and corrosion; thus, assuring a longer product life. On top of that, this series is also packed with 5-in-1 health filters for safe and healthy breathable indoor air.
