Vice Ganda insults Philippines Most Trusted News Personality

Has the network wars reached a totally different level?

After comedian Vice Ganda made fun of GMA 7 vice president for news programs and news anchor Jessica Soho, netizens have again trooped to various social networking sites to air their opinions about the comedian’s tasteless kind of comedy.

On May 17, during his concert titled “I Vice Ganda Mo Ako sa Araneta” at the Big Dome, the comedian staged a whole segment about unlikely celebrities becoming bold stars.

The segment, uploaded on YouTube in its entirety, included jokes about Soho, the only GMA 7 personality among ABS-CBN stars (Boy Abunda, Kris Aquino, Gus Abelgas and Kim Atienza)

Jessica Soho in a news interview said “I could let the fat jokes go, but he had to go so far.”

The uproar began Tuesday when broadcaster Arnold Clavio on his dzBB radio show, “One on One with Igan,” said “Why victimize serious people who have serious jobs You shouldn’t be using them just to make others laugh. Why don’t you just do that to your colleagues over at ABS-CBN?”

Several other GMA reporters then expressed their own opinions snowballing a very colorful  discussion on Twitter.

A top-ranking ABS-CBN executive meanwhile, question the timing of the controversy as it had already  been 11 days since the  concert.

Vice has since  issued a public apology during Showtime, and  said he already called Soho, but the  broadcaster declined saying  she wasnt feeling well at that time.

Some insiders say  the issue wouldn’t be as highly publicized if it had been a different personality especially since Soho had just won the Readers Digest Most Trusted News Personality for 2013.

For the third consecutive year, GMA Network’s VP for News Programs Jessica Soho again emerged as Reader’s Digest’s Most Trusted News Presenter besting some of the top broadcasters in the country.

Soho is widely regarded as the most awarded broadcast journalist in the country and her long list of awards include the highly prestigious George Foster Peabody Award, which is considered the Oscars of broadcast journalism. She recently received the Best News Anchor, awarded by Gandingan 2013: The 7th UPLB Isko’t Iska’s Broadcast Choice Awards Awards; Achiever in Documentary, from The EdukCircle, International Center for Communication Studies and Most Outstanding Filipino Documentarian of All Time.

She currently hosts GMA News TV’s flagship program, State of the Nation with Jessica Soho and Brigada as well as Kapuso mo Jessica Soho on GMA 7.  Unlike ordinary newscasts, SONA provides viewers with more than just a rundown of the day’s top stories as it presents news, investigative reports, full-length exclusive interviews ending with an insightful editorial.

The Reader’s Digest Trusted Brands survey covered 7,000 respondents in seven Asian countries including the Philippines, Singapore, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand, consisting of Reader’s Digest subscribers and Asian quality consumers.
