Viber’s United Republiq: Party with a Purpose

The effects of SuperTyphoon Yolanda may have dampened the Filipino Christmas Spirit but it didn’t prevent Electronic Dance Music (EDM) lovers from partying with a newfound purpose.

Electronic dance music (also known as EDM, dance music, club music, or simply dance) is a set of percussive electronic music genres produced primarily for environments centered in dance-based entertainment, such as nightclub settings. The music is largely created for use by disc jockeys and is produced with the intention of it being heard in the context of a continuous DJ set; wherein the DJ progresses from one record to the next via a synchronized segue or “mix”.

Dropping the bass for the hard-stricken survivors of Yolanda, pioneering mobile messaging and VoIP company Viber and Republiq initiated its own fund-raising concerts, namely: the United Republiq: An Electronic Music Assembly for a Cause dance concert party featuring renowned Swedish DJ Axwell and Nicky Romero last November 21 at the SM MALL OF ASIA Concert Grounds, and the Soul Brothers concert that featured RnB singers Jay-R and Kris Lawrence the next day at the Music Museum.

The concert generated an estimated P7 million as the performing DJs donated their talent fees to the Yolanda survivors.

“The Filipino spirit is strongest when we are one; as a united country”, as stated by the organizers and they hope that through this event, fans of the artists and followers of REPUBLIQ may be able to contribute to the country’s rebuilding process.

Local DJs Martin Pulgar, resident DJ of Republiq Super Club, Ace Ramos and Mars Miranda fired up the crowd as they kicked off the all-night concert.

DJ Axwell then headlined the concert as the crowd screamed as confetti showered down and a fireworks display erupted at the middle of his performance

The third member of what was once was the Swedish House Mafia later climbed on top the table and waved a Philippine flag while “Don’t You Worry Child” played in the background

“Remember to be strong, stay strong Philippines,” Axwell shouted out to a crowd of thousands.

DJ Nicky Romero best known for his hits Toulouse, Solar and Wild One Two, also gave his message to the Filipinos during his performance.  “In this way (concert) we can help the people get back up,” said Romero. “This is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever played in.”

Dance song duo NO_ID ended the star-studded concert performing most of their hits.

UNITED REPUBLIQ was presented by VIBER in and is a production of Republiq, Worldwide Womb, Driven, and Woosah Studios.

#VIBERHELPS CAMPAIGN FOR TYPHOON VICTIMS
In light of the current state of calamity in the Central Visayas region wrought by super typhoon Yolanda, Viber has pledged its financial aid to the Philippine National Red Cross and GMA Kapuso Foundation.

Aside from its charitable contribution, Viber has also spearheaded its own typhoon relief campaign called “Viber Helps.”

Viber CEO Talmon Marco said, “We are releasing this in an urgent manner due to the local crisis in the Philippines. Viber is the largest messaging provider in the Philippines, and as such we have a duty to our users to help with relief.”

On top of this initiative is its Viber Out, a new service that allows Viber users to make free calls to Globe mobile subscribers in the Philippines. The service was borne out of the pressing need to address the breakdown of communication services in the typhoon-stricken areas in the Visayas.

Elated with the good news, Viber users all over the world instantly posted their enthusiastic response in social media. But after some time, they realized that aside from the free international calls, there was an even more pressing need for Filipinos to make free local calls to their loved ones at this time of distress.

Heeding the clamor of its users, Viber initiated a collaborative effort and reached out to all local telecoms. Globe Telecom willingly offered its support. Viber and Globe worked 48 hours straight to enable free calls to Globe mobile numbers. Viber Out is further strengthened by Globe, and the participation of other foreign telco companies (Israel, China, Japan, Austria to name a few) who have also willingly volunteered their free local termination services as part of their mounting support for the typhoon victims.

On-ground, Viber partnered with Ayala Malls, the Philippine Red Cross and the AFP Public Affairs Office (PAO) to create Relief Communication Centers in key cities and the various priority typhoon-stricken areas to provide free mobile use and laptops for typhoon affected families unable to find and communicate with each other. Viber Country Manager Crystal Lee in partnership with Philippine Red Cross Chairman and CEO Richard J. Gordon and Ayala Malls launched “Sagip Tawag Centers” to bridge communication and help over 60,000 families who are unable to contact and communicate with their loved ones locally and abroad.

Within the next few days, relief communication centers (“Sagip Tawag Centers”) will be set-up in (14) Ayala Malls where mobile phones and laptops will be made available to the public to make free international and local Globe mobile calls.  Viber volunteers will also assist affected families and accept donations. Through the AFP-PAO, Viber will also setup in high priority affected areas and provide  100 Viber-ready Mobile phones and online tablets and laptops.

Philippine National Red Cross Chairman and CEO Richard Gordon lauds Viber’s charitable contribution and timely assistance in the country’s disaster management program.

“Apart from food, clothing and shelter, communication plays an important part in linking Filipinos to their families and relatives, and providing relief volunteers with the proper link to coordinate with their constituents,” he stresses.

Free General Admission tickets to the Viber United Republic: Electronic Music Assembly for a Cause dance concert were given to Viber users who donate in cash and in kind worth over P500 at Ayala Mall Sagip Tawag centers.
