5 Ways to help you fall asleep faster!

We all know the benefits of getting a good night’s rest, it makes you feel and look better, improve memory,  spur creativity,  help you achieve a healthy weight, and believe it or not it actually contributes to a longer quality life. But what if no matter how many sheep you count, how many candles you light up, and chapters you read, you just can’t fall asleep?

Here are 5 ways to help you easily doze off and get more hours of ZZZs: (SOURCE)

  1. Change your afternoon habit:  Drinking coffee or tea right before you hit the sack won’t do you any sleep favors. But did you know that what you drink in the afternoon also has an effect? You might want to check the labels on your favorite midday drinks, because any of that energy-boosting drinks may be the culprit. Then, if possible, stop sipping them by 2 p.m., so there’s time for their effects to wear off. Naturally, coffee drinks pack a real wallop, so stay away from them after lunch.
  2. GADGETS OFF!  Just one more post can actually delay your sleep longer. Typing in bed can wind you up, so when you do unplug, it will be harder to fall asleep. To get some really good sleep, disconnect an hour before bed, turn your GADGETS OFF, (mute, not vibrate!) Also, invest in a real alarm clock (using your cell will only give you another excuse to keep it close)—and get ready to wake up feeling so refreshed that you won’t even need to press snooze.
  3. Do some stretching:  Before you head to bed it might be a good idea to try out this yoga pose. Lie on your back with the soles of your feet together and your knees bent and dropping toward the floor. Place your arms, palms up, by your sides, keeping your shoulders back and your chest open. Close your eyes and inhale through your nose while slowly counting to four, then exhale while counting back down to one. Continue for 10 minutes, or as long as it takes you to feel fully relaxed.

  4. Mood lighting: While having those white LED bulbs and fluorescent lighting is really helpful when you are looking for things in your room and reading stuff, it also helps if you have another, dimmer light source. Bright light too close to bedtime can make it hard to fall asleep, because dimness signals the biological clock that it’s time to wind down, while bright light screams daytime! So it would be a good idea to get a night lamp to get you in the mood for some sleep.
  5. Invest in a great bed. In a 2011 poll, the National Sleep Foundation found that 92 percent of people say a comfortable mattress is important to a good night’s sleep. Having the wrong mattress — or the mattress that’s simply too old — can be the cause of more than that crick in your neck or your low back pain.Buying a nice bed or mattress can be very expensive but if you consider that even a little more shut-eye can help you lose weight, improve your memory and live longer, wouldn’t you consider that priceless?
