Rules and Scents of Attraction: Leave them wanting more

By Ed Uy

According to an article from, scientists have measured every shape and angle of the human face, studied the symmetry of dancers, and crafted formulas from the measurements of Playboy models, to figure out how we choose our potential partners.

But even after all these experiments and calculations, defining the rules of attraction for the human species remains a mystery.  They did, however, produce a short list of what humans find attractive, such as the feminine eyes of a supermodel, the desirable hips of a well-built man, body symmetry or even that lingering scent of desirability.

They say good symmetry shows that an individual has the genetic goods to survive development, is healthy, and is a good and fertile choice for mating. Body shape also proved to be quite important, specifically the waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) as women with a WHR of 0.7—or the hourglass figures of those of sexy cover girls and beauty pageant contestants—are most desirable to men.

So as much as we hate to admit it, and even without the use of measuring tapes and calculators, physical beauty plays the biggest part in the game, just look at the long queues forming in front of all those beauty centers.

But before you go out flaunting your waist to hip ratio and screaming “I have birthing hips!,” or brag how much your left side is symmetrical to your right side, take note that the rules of attraction also plays out in our subconscious—and this is where scent can be the game changer.

Secret of subtlety
The overused cliché “If you’ve got it, flaunt it,” may get you noticed, but remember that there’s a very thin line between being the center of attention and looking like a cheap flirt.

As the gorgeous new Camay girl Angelica Panganiban shared, getting a guy isn’t about being the loudest in the room or being the one to make the first move; it’s about showcasing your natural beauty and radiating self-confidence that will make you impossible to resist.

Attracting men and leaving them wanting more is sort of a game that’s hard to play and contrary to what many believe subtlety can be an advantage. “Sabi nga nila you have to play it subtle. Dapat sweet lang at di masyado obvious. At mas maganda yung wala kang ginagawa, yung parang pag dumaan ka napapatingin sila. Syempre iba yun, parang yung feeling mo yung confidence level mo, level up agad. Parang wala pa akong ginagawa niyan at hinahabol na ako. Syempre dapat rin mabango ka and pag hinawakan ka at nag shake hands ka, dapat soft ang skin mo,” Angelica shared.

Angelica embodies the modern girl: beautiful, confident, fun, feminine and irresistibly attractive and she further advised; “Basta you look and feel beautiful, makikita ng guy yung confidence mo kahit subtle ka lang. And of course, kailangan may soft, scented skin by Camay for that first touch–scent is a powerful thing: it evokes memories, arouses interest, and leaves someone wanting more.”

Iconic soap, unforgettable scent
Before Filipinos went crazy over whitening soaps and many of those organic soap variants Camay was THE “soap of beautiful women.”

Coined from the French word “camee,” which means cameo, the jewel, Camay was first introduced in 1926 as a white soap that was mild and gentle, and has since been known as a luxurious beauty soap for women who want smooth, silky skin and love its floral scents.

While the brand has been off the local market for a while, it remains as a favorite pasalubong from our balikbayan relatives.

Camay now makes its long-awaited return that aims to catch the attention of the new generation of women who have become more particular with their scent and skincare regimen.

Celebrating the return of the brand and the arrival of new Camay Girl a star-studded launch event was held last January 17 at Sky Garden, Zuellig Building.

Angelica now joins a long and illustrious list of Camay girls that included Gloria Romero, Armi Kuusela, Paquita Roses and daughters Maritess Revilla and Cita Revilla, Tina Artillaga, Zsa Zsa Padilla, Claudia Bermudez, Donna Cruz, Bb. Pilipinas beauties Sara Jane Paez, Jennifer Pingree and Anjanette Abayari, Rosa Rosal, Nida Blanca, and many others.

According to Chad Sotelo, P&G country marketing manager, Angelica was their first and only choice, because “she is deserving of such a role to represent the iconic brand. She is that one celebrity that brings to life what Camay stands for. The Camay girl is, after all, “beautiful, smart, sexy, very feminine, and very confident about herself.”

Understanding the effect of scent on attraction, P&G Beauty, the largest manufacturer of fine fragrances including Gucci, Hugo Boss and Lacoste, applied its scent expertise to create new scents for a brand that stands for making women look and feel more beautiful.

“Filipino women are generally conservative and are not comfortable in a sexy outfit, but most are open to wearing a playful scent– a good, sweet scent that could instantly lift their mood and make her feel sexy– that’s where Camay comes in,” Sotelo said.

Camay promises to give a new generation of beautiful Camay Girls soft, scented skin with three exciting new scents–Romantique Rose, Dynamique Grapefruit and Crème Vanilla

Romantique Rose reflects being feminine with a flirty edge. This heavenly scent is inspired by a classic Rose de Bagatelle that can ignite a sense for love and romance.

Capturing the refreshing scent of nature, Dynamique Grapefruit will brighten the day ahead with the scent of pink grapefruit and white floral accents. This vibrant scent is perfect for athletic women who are always on the go.

Finally Crème Vanilla redefines luxury as it puts together the indulgent scent of vanilla with lavish white lilies, creamy coconut and a touch of orchid. Enjoy a light and calming pampering experience with this delicious scent.

Sotelo detailed that it took several years for the P&G team to research on which scents Filipino women prefer. They also asked several men which scent makes a woman attractive and after a series of tests, these three romantic scents were chosen for being light but lingering and perfect for our tropical weather.

Camay Beauty Bar is available in 55g and 80g sizes while the Camay Body Wash is sold in 200ml bottles.
