CONCERT PERFORMERS
Headlining the bands that will be performing at MAKATI AFTER DARK are CALLALILY, SANDWICH, 6CYCLEMIND, CHICOSCI, GRACENOTE, MOONSTAR 88, and other surprise guests—each one promising to perform their biggest hits and newest songs.

Callalily:
Passion was what drove this group of young men to form a band and create music in July 2005. And though they’ve become certified Rockstars since their hit single “Stars,” their passion for music has never wavered.

Their music can be categorized as alternative-rock with a hint of pop injected every now and then. Seeing music as a part of their lives and as an emotional outlet, Callalily writes songs that directly speak to the audience.

Callalily began playing in small productions before fronting for major artists. Their stint as a front act for 6cyclemind led the band to land a contract with Sony BMG Music Entertainment and released their debut album “Destination XYZ” in 2006.

Since the release of “Destination XYZ”, which was certified as a Gold Record, and “Fisheye”, Callalily has had numerous chart-topping singles. With “Stars”, “Take My Hand”, “Magbalik”, “Pasan”, “Hintay”, “Ako’y Babalik”, and “Susundan”, Callalily never fails to stir up the crowd the moment they set foot on stage and play their first few notes.

Proving their versatility in the entertainment industry, Callalily has managed to conquer not only the music scene, but the film and TV industry as well. Aside from promoting their singles, going around the country for concerts and bar shows, taking part in almost every major event in the music industry, Callalily also debuted as actors in the comedy film, “Private Benjamin”, under VIVA Films. Even if lead singer Kean regularly dabbles in acting, he never fails to make his band his top priority.

Sandwich:
Everyone couldn’t resist a good Sandwich especially one that rocks out one hit tune after another.  As one of Manila’s most idiosyncratic rock bands, the songs of Sandwich have that quality of being fresh yet familiar at the same time. Listening to their record is like opening up a wormhole into an entirely different dimension and yet makes you feel at home.

The band was formed 1998, a time when Diego Castillo and Raymund Marasigan were just thinking of a band name on a t-shirt and sell some shirts. Raymund had been part of the Eraserheads for ten years as the drummer while Diego recruited former band mates from The Aga Muhlach Experience Mike Dizon (Teeth & Pedicab) to play drums and Myrene Academia (Imago & Duster) to handle bass duties. Sandwich was searching for a vocalist when music video director Marie Jamora recommended her friend Marc Abaya (Kjwan). Raimund assumed main vocal duties when Abaya left, but they remained a 5-piece band as the missing spot was later filled by Mong Alcaraz of the band Chicosci.

The band has written songs for soundtracks, including “Humanda Ka” for the online game Tantra, and “Nginiig” for the ABS-CBN television program of the same name. In early 2006, Sandwich released their fourth album, Five on the Floor, the first album with Marasigan as the sole frontman. In late-October 2006, their songs “Sugod” and “DVDX” became available on the online music game O2Jam.

In 2010, Sandwich launched their sixth studio album, Contra Tiempo featuring the single Putik, which the band dedicates to the victims of Typhoon Ondoy. Last year the band had a chance to travel and share their music to different countries as they participated in the Hongkong Clockenflap Music and Arts Festival, Malaysia’s Future Music Festival and the Hollywood Bowl with Apl de Ap of the Black Eyed Peas in Los Angeles, USA.

In April, 2013, they released their newest album entitled Fat Salt & Flame, under Polyeast Records.

6cycleMind:
When the members of 6cyclemind were asked to give one word that would fittingly describe their latest album, Good By Sunday, they simply replied, “New.”

The band has been in the music scene for over a decade with five successful full length abms and numerous hits including “Biglaan,” “Sandalan,” “Magsasaya,” “Aaminin,” “Kasalanan,” and the ultimate anthem to countless late night drinking sessions among friends, the immortal “Sige.”

But “new” is also perhaps the most fitting word to define the rebirth of this pop-alternative act as their latest album now features Tutti Caringal on lead vocals.

Tutti an experienced frontman for local rock outfit Protein Shake, took up the vocal chores after Ney Dimaculangan left the group. Somehow, it worked. And more importantly, not only did the fans love it, they welcomed the change. As a result, the gigs kept coming, and this newer configuration of 6cyclemind was given many opportunities to endear itself to their fans – the “Minders,” as they are called – and more importantly, hone their live show even further, rearranging old material and coming up with onstage moves to complement Tutti’s more engaging performance style.

Good By Sunday is described by Tutti as 6cyclemind still heading in a pop-alternative direction, but with an added kick. The most obvious change, of course, is the singing, but it is evident in the album’s overall sound that this is a different 6cyclemind, as Tutti, guitarists Rye Sarmiento and Herbert Hernandez, bassist Bobby Cañamo, and even songwriter/manager Darwin Hernandez readjusted their sound to perfectly suit their latest incarnation. And with former Protein Shake drummer Vic Aquino officially welcomed into the fold, 6cyclemind version 2.0 is bringing their new sound and live show to wherever there’s an audience eager to experience them.

Chicosci:
Formed in 2000 as an after-school get-together by guitarist Mong Alcaraz, vocalist Miggy Chavez and bassist Calde, the band continues to enjoy a successful run with 6 major releases and several music awards. Their current line-up now includes members Ariel Lumanlan (guitars) and Macoy Estacio (drums).

Their debut album, Revenge of the Giant Robot, established the band as one of the forerunners of the new generation of Philippine rock. Armed with an aggressive sound, the band has signaled their arrival in the scene with hits such as “Amen” and “Soopafly”. Along the way, the band picked up an MTV Pilipinas award for best video for the single “Sink or Swim”.

The band’s 2002 follow up, Method of Breathing, allowed further recognition for CHICOSCI as the album’s carrier Paris dominated the charts of the Philippine rock radio. The song held on to the number 1 spot for more than 52 weeks – earning the Song of the Year plum in the 2003 NU 107 Rock Awards. The album also found its way into PULP Magazine’s Top 100 Albums since 1990.

The release of their self-titled album in 2006 was when Chicosci found massive mainstream success. Music videos for singles “A Promise”, “Seven Black Roses”, “Chicosci Vampire Social Club” and “Last Look” dominated the Philippines’ music video charts, ranking number 1 on the daily, weekly and all-Filipino countdowns of MYX on separate occasions. These songs also enjoyed successful radio runs, topping not only rock charts, but other, more mainstream music charts as well.

The bands popularity has also gained ground in the Asian regional music scene, having performed in in countries like Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Hong Kong. The band has also opened for other popular international acts like Fall Out Boy, Good Charlotte, Thursday, Glassjaw, Cobra Starship, Dashboard Confessional and The Used.

Gracenote:
A musical note that embellishes the harmony or a melody of a song, Gracenote has become more than just a small and insignificant part of the music world turning each performance into a remarkable experience for their audience.

Gracenote consists of Eunice, Chen, Jazz, and EJ, all hailing from St. Scholastica’s College. From performing in minor productions and winning various band competitions, Gracenote caught the eye of Soupstar Entertainment’s Darwin Hernandez, after performing with 6cyclemind in the 2008 Nescafe Soundskool.

A few school concerts and events later, Gracenote finally landed a contract with Soupstar Entertainment. Vocalist Eunice gave her band a head start, playing violin for BBS and taking part in their live performances. She has appeared in numerous TV guestings such as ASAP Rocks, Kris TV, Myx Live with BBS and Kean Cipriano, and has performed during the 2011 Myx VJ Search Grand Finals.

Moonstar 88:
A female-fronted pop-alternative Filipino band formed in February of 1999, Moonstar 88 is most famous for their songs Torete and Langit.

The group toured the city’s club circuit and cafes and became a favorite of students and regularly performed in various colleges and universities. After a year of continuous playing and song writing, the band signed their first record deal with Alpha Records under the label’s Harmony Music imprint.

They band immediately entered the studio for their debut album, Popcorn, on July 2000. Moonstar 88 eventually won Song of the Year for “Sa Langit” as well as awards for Artist of the Year and New Artist of the Year. Another track from the album “Torete” also made it big in the Philippine music scene.

With its catchy melody, lyrics and simple chord progression, the song became very popular with cover artists, karaoke, television shows and was even used as an official movie soundtrack. The group’s second full-length, Press to Play, brought even more raves and commercial success in 2002 with singles like “Sulat” and the band’s version of a popular OPM classic, “And Pag-ibig kong ito.”

In 2004, after a line up change, the band got busy with live gigs. Touring different cities, schools and bars in the Philippines while writing new materials for the next album. In 2006, the band recorded a rendition of the classic OPM song “Panalangin” for the tribute album “Kami nAPO muna.”

The band signed a contract with SONY Music Philippines and released their 3rd album “Todo Combo,” which spawned the hit “Tadhana” and a revived version of a 90’s OPM hit “Senti” and “Migraine” that climbed the hit charts of radio stations and music channels.

With the release of their newest album “This Year” under Ivory Records,  Moonstar 88 hopes to regain its stature as one of the most sought after bands in the industry.  “This Year” also wins the Best Design Packaging Category in the ADOBO Design Awards 2013 held last April 26 at the Ayala Museum, Makati City.

In addition to the bands, a separate DJ setup will also be in place for those who prefer to dance the night away with other surprise celebrity guests expected to make an appearance and join in the festivities.
