Iza Calzado: From ‘Beauty Queen’ to noontime royalty

NOW that her reign as the “Beauty Queen” of primetime drama is about to end, Iza Calzado revealed her next step in furthering her craft—becoming part of the Noontime Royalty as guest host of Eat Bulaga.
Although Calzado was reluctant to make any announcements, several news articles have already mentioned her joining the noontime show beginning this February after taking a very short vacation.
The actress said she was really looking forward to hosting Eat Bulaga, saying that she had long wanted to become part of the “Dabarkads,” and that it was going to be another new challenge for her. “Hosting Eat Bulaga with Vic Sotto, Joey de Leon and the rest of the “Dabarkads,” I will surely learn so many things from them, especially when it comes to timing in comedy and the hosting a show.
While Calzado looked excited with her upcoming work, the svelte actress also expressed sadness now that the show is ending. “Beauty Queen has been a part of my life since October and I’d like to thank all the viewers who supported it every night for four months,” she says.
Calzado made a lot of eyes widen and glued to their TV sets when she showed of her sexy figure in the drama series, as she went head to head with the controversial Katrina Halili and real-life beauty queen Maggie Wilson.
Asked what the biggest challenge of her role was, Calzado replied smiling, “learning how to walk in high heels and going down the stairs without having to hold on to the railings.”
To prepare for the grand finale, Calzado (and co-star Halili) even had to take special training at John Robert Powers to learn the proper way to walk like real beauty queens. She “competes” tonight for crown of Bb. Isla Pilipinas for the last episode of the highly successful soap on
GMA 7.
