[Beijing, China October 26, 2015] Huawei, a leading global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider, welcomed the pioneer batch of students from the Philippines participating in Huawei’s Seeds for the Future Program.

A welcome ceremony was held last October 26, 2015 at the Huawei Exhibition Hall in Beijing to welcome the students and formally open the training program. According to Mr. Wellington Liu, this is the first time that Huawei Philippines participated in the Global CSR program and Huawei has chosen ten (10) students composed of eight(8) students from Mapua Institute of Technology and two(2) students from Ateneo De Manila University.
He further added that the Seeds for the Future Program was developed in order to bridge the gap between what is learned in ICT education and what is necessary in the industry.

“The program aims to prepare the the students’—our future resource, to be more competitive in the digital age. It seeks to develop local talent, transfer knowledge, promote a greater understanding of, and interest in, the telecommunications sector and encourage regional building and participation” according to Mr. Liu.

Her excellency, Erlinda F. Basilio, Philippine Ambassador to China was the special guest of honor and she delivered a very inspiring opening speech during the event. According to Ambassador Erlinda Basilio, the Philippine Embassy is glad with the quest that Huawei has taken—“to train the bright minds in the Philippines and is glad to be a witness to the launching of the Huawei Seeds for the Future Program”. She is very happy that Huawei has chosen the Philippines as a recipient of the program. The ambassador encouraged the students to make the most of the two week training program to learn more about the world class standards of Huawei. As a parting message to the students, the ambassador said “ Give something back to the society so that we can all have a more progressive, harmonious and brighter future”.

The day ended with a luncheon hosted by Huawei to commemorate the event and welcome the Ambassador and the students to Huawei Beijing.
