HUAWEI Philippines launched the nova academy masterclasses

HUAWEI Philippines launched the nova academy masterclasses on the Huawei Mobile PH Facebook page in the first week of April last month. The opening of the nova academy is inspired by its namesake, the nova smartphone line — Huawei’s youth-centered products at mid-range accessibility with flagship camera and vlogging features. With the goal of encouraging and empowering youths to explore their passions and interests with the best equipment available, Huawei’s nova academy covers different topics on content creation — with notes on how to execute your learnings with nova products!

A dance and music workshop with Riva Quenery

Last April 2, master dancer Riva Quenery opened for Huawei nova academy with the popular dance group, UP Streetdance to talk about how to get into hip hop music. Together, they discussed the traditions and history of hip hop, aesthetics of music selection, basics of choreography, and elements of successful and quality freestyling.

Some memorable moments from the class were when they not only delved into the mechanics and practical tips, but spoke candidly about passion: how dance is open to anyone no matter how young or old, how we should celebrate how our passions make us different, and how a community of passionate people can come together and support each other with their individual skills put together.

They closed the 45-minute live stream with a heavy-hitter dance demonstration from UP Streetdance, all filmed on the new nova 9 SE. Reflecting on the experience, the dancers especially gushed about the phone’s SuperCharge technology — taking just 15 minutes to reach 60% battery life, on a massive 4,000mAh battery. They are always on the go and practicing for hours at a time, needing a device that can record such long practices at any given moment. And with the nova 9 SE’s graphene cooling technology, they rarely have to worry about the phone overheating despite hours of recording. A phone like the nova 9 SE that can keep up with their energy has been really helpful.

Best of all, the masterclass and also any other masterclass for nova academy will remain online for anyone who missed it! You can view the recorded class directly here.

A photography and videography workshop with Seb Gilbert and Sofia Andres

Last April 6, filmmaker Seb Gilbert and actress Sofia Andres doubled the intensity by packing two crash courses into one masterclass: photography and videography. Seb first led the discussion with UST Fotomasino students on camera equipment and settings and composing and lighting subjects for photography, with Sofia and UP Cinema Arts Society chiming in. Sofia and UP CAST then explored the basics of sound engineering, shot movements, and the difference between lighting for photos and lighting for videos, with Seb and UST Fotomasino also sharing their thoughts.

An unexpectedly touching moment was when Sofia ended up sharing how her journey as a mother actually affected her content. Another great moment was when they took a break from discussing the mechanics and acknowledged how the rules can so intimidating, but they will eventually become intuitive if you just focus on developing your style. They’re such great moments that you’ll have to watch the class to see them! You can view the class directly here.

If that doesn’t entice you to check it out yet, UST Fotomasino and UP CAST ended up sharing fantastic photo and video demonstrations, all filmed on the new nova 9 SE as well. Reflecting on the experience, they repeatedly noted the truly first-class quality of the 108MP main camera that is not typical on mid-range offerings. They also repeatedly agreed on the authenticity they get to access with the Dual-View Recording capability of the nova 9 SE, which allows vloggers to record their genuine reactions with the front camera to what they’re seeing in real-time through the rear camera. The students also appreciated how easy it had been to edit their material with the Petal Clip app on the nova 9 SE, which helps even beginner content creators easily and smoothly create videos like professionals.

The nova academy is a great opportunity to hone your skills and quality control as an aspiring content creator, free from gatekeeping bias and problems of inaccessibility. With celebrity instructors happy to share their knowledge and nova products tailored to help you put what you learn into practice, you can start your career as soon as today! You only need 45 minutes to get schooled on the basics!

Copies of previous masterclasses will be available on the Huawei Mobile PH YouTube page.
