Gwen Garci gets Rocked by GLOC-9 and Spongecola in Playboy

Let the music stir your soul and the ladies get you heart racing this September as Playboy Philippines unveils an issue filled with various musical personalities.

Gracing the cover is current king of rap, GLOC-9, Sponge Cola frontman Yael Yuzon and making a comeback worthy of a diva, Gwen Garci, in what she claims to be her sexiest and most risqué shoot ever. Displaying humility not often found in rap culture filled with swagger and arrogance, GLOC-9 talks to Playboy about local culture being ideal fodder for rapping. “I’ve always believed in Sir Kik’s [Francis Magalona] style of rapping, where he takes stories from ordinary people and situations and turn them into something more powerful and relevant. I wanted to continue that tradition,” he revealed.

Yuzon gives readers an insight into fronting the hipster band of the decade and how the internet helped fuel Sponge Cola’s rise to fame, how it all started with a cover of Madonna’s Crazy For You posted online to winning accolades a decade later. Garci plays muse to the musicians and recounts her hiatus from the spotlight. “I pretty much kept a low profile while I was living in the States, but now I’m ready to be back in the limelight and I think doing a photo shoot with Playboy should give the audience an idea of the kind of impact I want to make in the industry now,” she enthused.

Musical icon Rico J. Puno as September’s Man of the Month recounts the way OPM has evolved while The Oktaves, a superband comprised of local rock legends and new talents, gives their candid views on Filipino music, proudly declaring that OPM is certainly not dead.

This issue’s featured women are just as hot and musically-inclined as these icons. Miss September, Joyen Santos, is a sound engineer walking to the tune of her own drum, fronting metal band River and alt-rock band, the Black Vomits. Meanwhile, Asian Beauty Sai Castro sways to the Latina beat as she personifies the exotic, spicy beauty of a Filipina.
