Cake.
No birthday celebration would be complete without these special dessert whether the celebrant is age 1 or over 100 right?
So its quite strange that for the longest time, Pinoys never really had a special day for the one thing that makes special days even more special right?
It was only last year, that the country’s most loved bakeshop, Goldilocks, celebrated its 50th year, that they began to start a delightful new tradition—National Cake Day!
The day you get to can actually have your cake—and eat it too!
The origin and history of National Cake Day are not known, but its been observed in many countries every 26th of November.
Of Viking origin, the word cake is derived from Old Norse “kaka”. And no one knows who baked the first cake as there have been countless cake recipes, some of which are bread-like, some rich and elaborate and many are centuries old. Cake then was more like gingerbread due to the availability of refined ingredients.
Cakes are the favorite dessert of everyone from ancient times, and the 1st cakes are believed to have been made in Ancient Greece and Egypt. The earliest cakes were quite thick, flat and round as they were moulded using hands. These first cakes were mostly like bread, and they were usually sweetened with honey, topped with nuts and eaten at the end of a meal. In later years, the ancient Romans also made their version of this delicious dessert which was preferably creamy, rich and these cakes were usually used in religious and cultural occasions.
But nowadays, with the help of new baking technologies, cakes are quickly baked and decorated uniquely, and the numbers of flavors and cake possibilities are almost endless.
This year, the country’s number one bakeshop, Goldilocks celebrates National Cake Day as they brought an assortment of delightful cakes – not to mention an array of delightful activities – to the residents of the Baseco Compound in Tondo, Manila.
On the day itself, Goldilocks aims to make the celebration even bigger and bolder by giving another “cake-all-you-can” buffet to all cake Goldilovers from Manila and different parts of the country, namely key stores in Batangas, Pangasinan, Cebu, Iloilo, Cagayan De Oro, Davao. In other Goldilocks branches nationwide, customers get a free slice of cake.
Our blogger group from Manila traveled all the way to Batangas to take part in their National Cake Day celebration, and I felt like a kid again who’s been given all the cake choices I could ever wish for. Theres the Black forest, ube keso, rainbow cake, chocolate mousse, tres leches and several other variants that excited diners all lined up for throughout the entire day.
