She is as feisty as she is smart, versatile as she is sexy, and her wit matched only by her devotion to her family.
Outside their home, Giselle Sanchez plays many roles as a stand-up comedienne who can also sing, act, and host. Her body of work spans theater to mainstream TV and cinema. Besides her solid career in show business, she also writes a column for a major broadsheet and online entertainment website pep.ph.
But as soon as she takes of the sultry outfits and removes her make-up, she transforms into the “manang” mom her children Emilia Gisela (9) Zappa (3), know her to be–a complete mirror image of how the public perceives her to be.
“I am such as a manang, in the sense that I have a secret life that only my children get to see, she told the Manila Times in a recent interview to promote her upcoming show “Salaminkera: Tales from the Looking Glass.”
“I go to mass everyday, pray the rosary everyday…its funny that the way they perceive me is very different. When they see me wearing sexy clothes they know I have a show, but when I don’t they expect me to just wear a sundress and cover my cleavage (laughs). . So if I wear a sexy dress and I don’t have a show my daughter will ask me ‘do you have a show? If not, can you wear something more mommy like?”
“But I’m very thankful that I have a very understanding husband, and family who is always there to support me, they are my answered prayers,” she quipped.
Giselle says she’s been a devotee since her college days at UP Diliman student. Prayer, she said is one of the most important lessons her own mother taught her.
“No matter how rich or powerful you become, you will have a void in your heart if you don’t have God in your life. We were prewired to look for God and ask for his help when we need it and God’s mother, Mary, intercedes for all of us with the Lord,” she said.
Another lesson her mom taught her was to share her blessings, “Blessings are given by the Lord for us to pass on to others who need them. Would you rather be the hand that gives or the hand that asks?” This is the reason why has become an active member of their church’s socio-civic projects.
Mirror mirror on the wall
In her upcoming show Giselle brings to life “Salaminkera,” a mirror that actually talks to you and tells you about your career, family life, and love life. After all, Salaminkera is inspired by the magic mirror of the evil queen from the timeless tale of SnowWhite; and provides honest answers to any question.
Coined after the term “salamangkero,” a Filipino word for magician or wizard,Salaminkera is like the best friend next door who you love for not mincing words and always saying the truth. And with her over-the-top sense of humor to boot, you can’t help but talk to her even more.
The one-act play will be presented on May 30, 2013 at the Rigodon Ball, Manila Peninsula. Expect an enjoyable magic mirror ride as Salaminkera takes everyone to an inside look at the world of Filipinas. With insights coming from Giselle’s personal experiences as a woman herself, expect jokes and laughter to also contain bits of wisdom that will tickle both the funny bone and the mind.
This show is a collaborative effort between Giselle and Sangobion, the organic iron supplement with vitamins and minerals. Sangobion empowers and gives women a boost in their everyday lives by helping combat the 3 signs of iron deficiency: looking pale, lack of focus, and fatigue.
The material is written by four-time Palanca winner for play, George de Jesus III. He also won in the Centennial Literary award for full-length play.

Giselle is currently hosting the primetime show, Kara-okray that airs Monday nights at 7 p.m. on Viva network (Channel 57 on Cignal), with replays on Tuesdays and Fridays at the same time.
