More than a shopping mecca and destination for historical sites such as the 1840’s-built Man Mo Temple, the oldest in Hong Kong, the former British colony is a food adventurer’s paradise. For first-time visitors, online travel site CNNGo recommends the dim sum at Maxim’s Palace at City Hall and Lin Heung Teahouse, cha chaan teng or bing sutt (Hong Kong-style French toast stuffed with satay beef slices) at Lok Yuen, and seafood at Chuen Kee Seafood restaurant in Sai Kung. Budget-friendly foodie finds include Mak’s Noodle in Central known for wonton noodles, Good Hope Noodle in Mong Kok for beef brisket noodles, Australia Dairy Company in Kowloon popular for its scrambled egg sandwich, and Curry Tiffin for Indian fare. Western restaurants are also abundant in the city-state and according to the 2012 Michelin Guide, 8 ½ Otto e Mezzo BOMBANA on Charter Road is the top Italian restaurant outside Italy, having a three-star rating.
