Beef! beef! beef! beef! Rocking Out with Bamboo

20150121_190552

Well, sort of actually, Bamboo was rocking and I was out–of tune (even during the chuwariwap bits).

But I did get to share the stage and sing with the Pinoy Rock Icon.

The feeling, however, was a lot like my other “first times”– surreal, awkward and downright embarrassing.

As part of the launch event last night of Bamboo’s endorsement of Jollibee Garlic Pepper Beef, they held a couple of contests–“Rockeoke with Bamboo, and a “Rockstar look of the night.”

And surprise, surprise! From almost a hundred media people that attended the event, I got to join both!–albeit forcibly  (Thanks to Chelle Mendoza and Sky Gavin–whom I really thought were my friends. 🙂

I was in group 3 with Sky, and fellow blogger Jonel. We had to choose from either Elesi and Tatsulok– since the first two groups already opted for the easier choices Hallelujah and 214 (which i could have sung solo hah!)

So, there we were, on stage, with Bamboo, and i noticed all of those spotlights and cameras began to focus on us.

I told myself it’s gonna be fine, but I was never a good listener. And as I was about to sing my lines…Bam! I forgot the melody!

Who would have thought anyone could make the lively “Elesi” sound like a funeral march–My voice crackled like a highschool kid undergoing puberty and I think I mumbled my solo lines into the microphone every single darn time!

I know most of the old Rivermaya songs and it just had to be Elesi? Nice.

I wanted to bury my face right in that single piece of paper (which i wanted bring home and hang on the wall as a reminder to avoid all future events other involving singing).

If there was any consolation, I think I got everyone’s attention, cause everyone seemed to have stopped eating and lost their appetite during those five minutes.

If I were auditioning for The Voice, the coaches would’ve quickly turned their chairs around—and slap me.

And as if the sing-off wasn’t enough, I was chosen- again- as one of the contestants for the best rock outfit.

BEST.ROCK.OUTFIT.

BEST.ROCK.OUTFIT.

BEST.ROCK.OUTFIT.

Lucky Me.

The last time I was picked for best dressed was at a Chirstmas costume party–because I looked like Tweedledum/TweedleDee.

Yeah. Tweedledee the Rockstar.

Jeman of orangemagazineph blurted out the perfect description–“Rockstar hindi Bouncer!”

So there I was on stage again with my man Bamboo,  who must be thinking “this guy must have really done something to p** off the organizers.”

Enzo and Jonel were wearing jackets and really looked like they dressed for it.

While, I was wearing a dark gray shirt  (that read First Fashion Blogger), denim jeans and my Converse chucks.

Bamboo then said. “Hmm. This is a little difficult.”

“You see Ed here has a skull on his shirt….”

Skull? Oh… So my shirt had a skull design that even I didn’t notice.

I guess I wont be returning to The Craft Bar at BGC anytime soon.

Don’t get me wrong though, I did have a lot of fun and got to know more about Bamboo than I thought I did.

It was really a beefed up jamming session with Bamboo and watching him perform live has always been amazing. He even went around the venue to have pictures with the audience.

I guess being one of the judges at “The Voice” made him more approachable and comfortable with the media. They later showed a short video of how Bamboo has become a friend, brother and even a father figure to  Juan Karlos and the other The Voice talents he mentored.20150121_190447

Compared to the previous times I got to interview him, I noticed he’s become more open, and spent a lot of time answering questions after the event.

“People always associate musicians with being cool or astig. They think we’re unapproachable, but I’m really just a regular guy who enjoys the simple things in life,” said the rockstar.

Bamboo also admitted to being a practical foodie who eats anything and everything– depending on the weather. And guess what! He also cooks and bakes–but only during the holidays. So,  I wont  be surprised if he becomes a guest in one of those cooking shows anytime soon!

Beef, beef, beef beef!

As mentioned earlier, the event was really about introducing Bamboo as the endorser of Jollibee Garlic Pepper Rice and being the newest member of the Jollibee Family.

With juicy beef strips in flavorful pepper sauce topped with garlic bits, The Garlic Pepper Rice, is a delicious and satisfying favorite that offers great value for money for only P50. No wonder it has become the most successful low priced rice meal for Jollibee.

Now that’s one thing I share in common with Bamboo, as its also my favorite though I usually pair it with the shanghai meal. See you at Jollibee! Beef! Beef!
