Angelica Panganiban is a rarity in show business.
Besides being one of the very few who successfully made the transition from child star, teen sweetheart, to versatile actress, Angelica has also found a way to stay current, relevant and always in demand.
Her portrayal of twins Rosanna and Rebecca Del Sol in the primetime teleserye “Apoy Sa Dagat”, which aired for five months during the first half of the year has gotten a lot of positive feedback and closed the year with an acting trophy.
Angelica won the Best Actress award last week at the Cinema One Originals Film Festival for the movie Alamat ni China Doll where she played the role of a woman with a tragic past.
Angelica was very proud of her first full-length indie movie saying she now understands how different indie filmmaking is from her usual commercial fare.”Wala talaga akong alam sa paggawa ng ganitong pelikula,” as she expressed her thanks.
The film of Adolfo Alix, Jr. was one of the most anticipated entries in the festival as it was written by acclaimed filmmaker Lav Diaz and boasted of a stellar cast that includes Cesar Montano and Phillip Salvador.
Perhaps the only thing more impressive than her superstar status was how she managed to keep a strong disposition despite all the controversies and intrigues that have hounded her career and even her love life.
Maybe its because of her personality, or because she knows how to be thankful of the “little things” the “little successes” or maybe because she knows how to share her blessings.
Just like many other celebrities, Angelica together with the rest of the cast of her gag show “Banana Split” and friends from the industry auctioned several personal items– even those which she says has a lot of “sentimental value” for her.
“The prices of these items vary. Some are expensive, some are affordable. We will announce the details of what we’re going to sell and where the profits will go hopefully by next week,” she told media Thursday during the launch of her newest endorsement Excelente Brandy.
Angelica gave a preview of the auction by posting a photo of a pair of spiked stilettos she plans to auction on Instagram.
“Good as new!!!! Who’s excited for our banana auction??? P.S humihingi din po kami ng tulong sa mga kaibigan namin sa industriya 🙂 at lahat po ng tulong ninyo ay mapupunta sa isang foundation na ipapaalam po namin sa inyo next week kasabay ng pag sisimula ng auction. 🙂 sa lahat po ng mga kaibigan namin, pwede niyo po akong lapitan kung gusto niyong sumali. Wll be announcing details hopefully by early next week. Bangon Pinas!!!,” read her tweet.
Angelica said the auction is just her own little way of helping those affected by killer Yolanda.
The actress had witnessed first hand the effects of a calamity as she and her “Banana Split” co-stars were in Bohol when 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck.
“Ngayon alam ko na ang pakiramdam kapag akala mo magpapaalam ka na sa mundo,” she posted back then.
Angelica was also part of the ABS-CBN all-star benefit concert “Tulong Na, Tabang Na, Tayo Na” last Saturday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. “I’ll be there to show my support but not to perform,” she added.
“I hope all the help will truly go to the victims. And I hope they will also be put to good use,” she said.
