Joey “Pepe” Smith, Ely Buendia, and Slapshock may have been the biggest names in Pinoy rock at the recent Red Horse Beer Pambansang Muziklaban Grand Finals, but it was an amateur band from the Greater Manila Area, who rocked the hardest.
“A Music Theory” composed of Cholo Pabalan, JC Santos, Lorce Manaois, and John Jo Presingular, all alumnus of Dela Salles University – Manila, bested four other finalists and emerged as the 2012 Muziklaban grand champion. The band beat Katulad (Northern Luzon), Fidortchi (Southern Luzon), Disengage (Visayas) and Memoronnie (Mindanao).
As a result, they brought home the P500,000 cash prize, an exclusive recording contract with Red Horse Beer and MCA Universal, and other prizes from clothing company Dickies, which was a co-presenter.
The event, hosted by Phoemela Baranda, Francis Brew and Ely Bendia, who is also a Red Horse Beer brand ambassador, featured two Red Horse “power meters” on both sides of the stage, which set off fireworks whenever bands onstage or the cheering crowd—estimated at 18,000–reached peak decibel levels.
Apart from the sights and sounds on the main stage, Muziklaban fans also got to appreciate the work of Hollywood tattoo artist Chris Garcia, who exhibited his work inside the Pinoy Ink Tent.
Meanwhile, top BMX and skateboard riders treated audiences with breathtaking stunts at the Extreme Sports Zone. Amateur bands who were looking to participate in the 2013 Muziklaban, meanwhile were given the chance to audition at the event’s Horsepower Zone.
Also grabbing people’s attention was the customized Red Horse Beer 900cc Vulcan motorcycle won by Taguig City resident Walther Calderon. The bike, customized exclusively by Hardcore Brothers, is worth approximately P1 million.
To celebrate the 14th year of Muziklaban, Red Horse Beer also gave away P14,000 in cash each for 14 raffle winners as well as 196 cases of Red Horse Beer (330mL).
