DeathCare Week– WHAT REALLY HAPPENS WHEN YOU DIE

“Life asked death, ‘Why do people love me but hate you?’ Death responded, ‘Because you are a beautiful lie and I am a painful truth.”

What happens when we die?

It’s one of those questions that have exercised some of humanity’s finest minds ever since, well, humans have been around to have them. We’ve sent men to outer space, explored the depths of the sea, invented all sorts of gadgets to help us live (or keep us alive,) and even come up with cures to almost every known disease, yet we have never really come close to figuring out what really happens when we die.

We’ve all heard stories, of people “coming back” to life, of seeing a bright light, or some entity, or their dearly departed whose come for them. Some say they felt calmness, while others say they felt nothing. While there are those who swear they could see themselves separated from their body.

Having been a writer for most of my life, I’ve interviewed my fair share of celebrities and a lot of ordinary people. And while all of them are always excited to talk about their life, their goals and their dreams, I have yet to meet someone who’d want to talk about their death plans.

Talking about death is as taboo as it is offensive. And I have no plans of asking whoever my next interviewee about their thoughts on death right after they talked about their new diet.

But death just like taxes and the next senate investigation “in aid of legislation” is certain.

We just don’t want to talk about it not because of fear, but because most of us are simply not ready–or don’t want to prepare for it just yet.

We simply don’t want to think about death, because we don’t want to entertain thoughts of what would happen to your family–especially if you have kids.

Consider this though, if you really love them, shouldn’t you prepare for the inevitable to make it easier for them?

DO YOU REALLY WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DIE?

There will be lots people crying or rejoicing — depending on the kind of life you lived.

You may even get a tribute and a lot of sad faces and condolence messages on your Facebook wall.

But unless you’ve made the proper preparations– there will probably be chaos.

Instead of having time to mourn for your, they’d probably spend the first couple of days panicking, trying to give you a proper memorial service.

You’ve probably heard the story from one of your friends who recently lost someone, how they were only able to mourn and fully accept the loss of their loved one, after the burial–its probably because they were too busy making funeral arrangements, and were tense, panicking, and maybe even had financial problems because of the untimely death.

I honestly never thought seriously about it until last night.

I was with a group of blogger friends and we had an event for St. Peter, which you probably know more as a funeral parlor/chapel than a company that offers Life Plans or and DeathCare services. Yep while we were busy solving puzzles during the Breakout, game I was actually thinking about why I got life insurance, and pension investments, but haven’t really thought about who would actually take care of me if something happens.

So while FPJ, the blogger, not “DaKing of Philippine movies” was shouting out the names of the countries for each flag, I was contemplating on whether I wanted to be cremated or buried.

See!!! You’re probably thinking “Well this is getting morbid–better click on that next cat video–or…Has Wil Dasovich uploaded a vlog (he has cancer ICYMI) and I know he’s more focused on getting well, but what if—- yep –I know –you don’t wanna think about that either.

But did you know that for as low as Php650 a month you can get a life plan (and spare your loved ones the added stress of preparing for your funeral service?)

Even in death you could still do an FB Live.

DEATH CARE WEEK

St. Peter’s Bloggers night was also to announce the activities they’ve lined up for DeathCare Week which happens from October 27 to November 2 2017.

DeathCare Week is the company’s major Corporate Social Responsibility and Public Service Program that aims to promote awareness on DeathCare Planning and preparation. Its also their way of joining the entire nation in commemorating All Saints Day and All Souls Day.

“We are now on our 10th St Peter DeathCare Week and we picked these dates not only because All Saints Day and All Souls Day fall within this period, but it also coincides with the anniversary of the company,” Dra. Mildred Vitangcol Chairman of the Board St. Peter Life Plan, Inc, explained to us.

Since it is during these dates that Filipinos visit, honor and remember our departed loved ones, I guess its also the best time to be aware of Death Care Preparation and planning for such realities.

On October 29, a Eucharistic Celebration will be held at the Talitha Kum Healing Mass on TV which will be aired in PTV4, 8:00 am to be attended by the employees, plan holders and officers of St. Peter.

On October 31 to November 1, St. Peter will put up Pink Tents in selected cemeteries as well as provide free pink tricycle rides. The Pink Tents will be put up in selected cemeteries nationwide to provide assistance to those who will be going to the cemeteries from October 31 till November 1. The Tents will be in color PINK to be easily recognizable and noticeable.

The Pink Tricycles on the other hand aims to keep the spirit light in the midst of the traffic and will offer free rides to commuters.

You probably know about their Pink Casket Displays and if you are game enough to take a photo while inside it, you might even get the chance to get free hand fans and umbrellas.

For a frighteningly fun Halloween experience St. Peter Life Plan again partners with Breakout Philippines to create specially themed escape rooms: Check out the list of Breakout Rooms that will be available from October 1 till November 6 only.

  1. SM North EDSA – Boogeyman and Sleep No More Rooms
  2. Greenbelt 5 – Corpse Bride Room
  3. Katipunan – Clownhouse Room
  4. Paragon Plaza – Hide and Seek Room

The Employees, Sales Agents and St. Peter Life Plan Plan-holders can avail of Php 100.00 off from the booking fee upon presentation of St. Peter Employee ID, Sales Agent ID, Plan-holders Identification Card or the white copy of the St. Peter Life Plan Contract.

I must admit, despite the party atmosphere, the puzzle solving game and the pink casket photo booth, I think St. Peter did a pretty good job of making us think and consider preparing for that one thing we know will come for us.
