Q: What causes blackheads and whiteheads?
A: Blackheads and whiteheads are caused when the oil glands produce excessive amounts of Sebum. Sebum is a natural skin lubricant that in right amounts is beneficial to skin. When there is an excess of Sebum though, some of it accumulates and gets trapped beneath dead skin, this trapped Sebum eventually becomes blackheads and whiteheads.

Q: What causes the oil glands to produce excessive amounts of Sebum?
A: Typically in adolescents from 12 yrs., to young adults in their early 20s, the cause is hormonal. For those in their late 20s and older, genetics is a likely factor. At any age some factors that can help cause or even directly cause overproduction of Sebum are: stress, lack of sleep, nacomedogenic moisturizers and make-up.

Q: Why do blackheads and whiteheads seem to occur on or near the nose?
A: The nose has a particularly large concentration of oil glands relative to other areas of the face.

Acne-treatment

Q: Are blackheads and whiteheads considered Acne?
A: Yes, acne is a medical term that includes blackheads, whiteheads and pimples.

Q: How does one prevent blackheads and whiteheads?
A: Keratolytic maintenance medications normalize oil glands and reduce the size of pores, this prevents blackheads and whiteheads.

Q: Can acne be cured by just medication without pricking?
A: Strictly speaking yes, but it takes much longer, and the resulting long term damage to skin is far greater with meds alone and no pricking.

Q: What it I stop using acne medications?
A: Acne could recur, especially in those with really active oil glands, and those in their adolescent years.

Q: How long after my first treatment will it take before all my blackheads, whiteheads and pimples are gone?
A: A treatment cycle can last anywhere between 4 to 8 weeks depending on the severity. Pricking should be done once a week during the 4 to 8 weeks. After the full treatment cycle, a monthly pricking is usually recommended.

Q: Won’t pricking cause scarring?
A: Correct pricking is done at the skin pores, which means that the actual wound is very small, and will fully heal within 24 hours. What can do damage are pustular pimples that have been left untreated for over 2 days.

Q: How does one avoid long term, deep acne scars?
A: The best way to avoid acne scarring is to treat acne at the first sign of blackheads or whiteheads. If pimples do appear, make sure to get treated within two days; any longer than two days will likely mean long term damage.

Q; What sets SkinTrends apart from other facial centers?
A: Our pricking procedure is what sets us apart. Our attendants are thoroughly trained, and have all had to pass a battery of challenging tests just to qualify to work here.

Q: What do I do if I have meds left over from another clinic?
A: The meds at clinics don’t vary greatly, whatever you were given by another clinic you can continue here. As long as you have a prescription from the other clinic, you can choose to resume your medication with us.

Q: How often does one typically need a facial?
A: Monthly treatments of pricking and topical medications are usually enough for people not suffering from severe acne. Pricking alone with no medication is not enough.

Q: How long does a typical facial take?
A: On the average 40 mins., but severe cases can take up to an hour.

Q: Why is washing of the face not allowed after pricking?
A: Because pores are open for 24 hours after pricking, washing the face just after pricking could result in infection.

Q: I used to have clear skin, then all of a sudden pimples just broke out, what could have happened?
A: Over production of Sebum is always the direct cause, but one of three factors could have triggered this overproduction:
1. Hormonal changes
2. Genetics
3. Drastic changes in lifestyle, particularly lack of sleep.

Q: I have a friend who was treated at a dermatologist clinic, now he has scars all over, what could have happened?
A: Your friend most likely waited too long after pimples appeared to get treated. Pimples should be treated within two days from the time they appear, otherwise the chances of deep scarring are heightened.

SKINTRENDS: THE TRUSTED SKIN CARE EXPERT
Skintrends was started by Dr. H. Joy G. Mongcal more than a decade ago as HCG Face & Body Clinic in Sta. Rosa City, Laguna when skin care was still not as popular as it is today.

The center became a haven for people looking for a clinic that gives them excellent service at a very reasonable cost. HCG Face and Body Clinic attracted clients from all walks of life while Dr. Mongcal continued to introduce new technologies and additional services & products.

Eventually word spread farther and clients would come from as far as Alabang and Paranaque area. Dr. Mongcal started to get recommendations to open a skin care center closer to Manila.

Since Dr. Mongcal believes in personally taking care of each client, expansion is only feasible under a system where she can duplicate the success of the first clinic.

10 years after perfecting the system and building a well-trained team, Dr. Mongcal finally decided to expand the clinic into a center hence Skintrends was born in December 2006.1ts first foray into malls started in Festival Supermall in Alabang in January 2007. The center became a hit attracting a big chunk of the market within the first few weeks of operations. Clients of well known competitors tried Skintrends out of curiosity. After trying out Skintrends, they became loyal to the brand. Based on information sheets given out to clients, 80% of first time clients are referrals of existing clients which makes our satisfied clients our number one source of advertisement. In less than 4 years after its first Mall branch was opened, Skintrends serves its clients through 8 branches in Laguna & Metro Manila: Sta. Rosa Commercial Complex in Sta. Rosa, PCC Building across Paseode Sta. Rosa Mall in Sta. Rosa, Wellcare Clinics and Lab in Waltermart in Sta. Rosa, Festival Supermall in Alabang, Ali Mall Phase 2 in Araneta Center, Quezon City, 2nd Level of Cyber & Fashion Mall, Eastwood, 168 Mall in Binondo and SM Fairview in Quezon City (with a surgical center).

Skintrends has been in existence for almost 20 years and recently has rebranded as the Acne Authority. Skintrends offers many skincare services, but it is the pimple treatment in particular that patients raved about. Skintrends aims to be known as the go-to skincare center if you have acne.

The thrust of the company is to help people become aware that early intervention is the key to preventing acne scars. Only SkinTrends can claim that its acne treatment is the most tolerable in the terms of pain, prevents trauma to the skin and dark spots.

While the clients will surely be amazed by the excellent facilities & top of the line equipment and machines and the caring and courteous service of attendants, it is the excellent results of the treatments at a very affordable price that will keep them coming back. This is possible because unlike in many other centers the attendants were personally trained by Dr. Mongcal, hence they are using techniques & procedures that only trained Dermatologists would normally use. It is part of training that before attendants are allowed to treat clients, each one is required to “sample” all procedures on Dr. Mongcal herself. Only when she is satisfied with the trainee’s performance will the trainee be allowed to do procedures on clients.
