The most useful Huawei P30 and P30 Tips and Tricks you need to know!

Now that you’ve got your hands on your shiny new P30 / P30 Pro, you are probably excited to try out all its nifty features.

But if you are a first time Huawei user, or even if you’ve been a long time P series fan, the question is where should you start?

Fear not dear reader, as we’ve compiled some of the most useful tips, uncover some hidden features and give you some tips on how to unleash all the neat features of your P30/P30 Pro!S

TRANSFER DATA FROM OLD DEVICE via PHONE CLONE: You can easily transfer your data from your old iPhone or Android device, in the initial setup menu. All you have to do is go to Phone Clone and follow the instructions on your P30 . You can transfer your contacts, messages, apps, photos, user setup and a few other things although I do suggest you just transfer your contacts, messages initially and fresh install the apps separately. Take note transfering photos and videos might take a long time so be sure to plug in your phone while doing this. You can also restore a backup from Google.

AVOID THOSE EMBARASSING TYPO’s Your P30 phone ships with Swiftkey installed as its default keyboard and the first thing you’d want to do personalize it. If you have a Swiftkey account I suggest you sign in or create an account. You might also want to disable autocorrect (unless you’d be typing in English most of the time) Go to messages or any app that allows you to type; when the keyboard shows up tap the “gear” icon and uncheck “Autocorrect” you can also remove the number row. If you often use emojis enable emoji prediction so that when you type “cake” an emoji suggestion will appear. You can also download themes, adjust the size of your keyboard etc. Now if you want to change keyboard just go to settings Language and input.

TIP! IF YOU ARE NOT FAMILIAR WITH HUAWEI’S EMUI, MENUS AND SETTINGS OR IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN APP OR ANY OTHER INFORMATION ON YOUR PHONE, ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS GO TO THE HOME SCREEN AND SWIPE DOWN FROM ANY BLANK SPACE (SWIPING FROM THE TOP OF THE SCREEN WILL REVEAL THE NOTIFICATIONS AND SHORTCUTS) TO MAKE THE SEARCH BAR APPEAR. NOW ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS TYPE YOUR QUERY AND IT WILL SHOW YOU A LIST OF POSSIBLE ANSWERS. FOR APP LOCATIONS TAP THE PIN ICON AND IT WILL SHOW YOU WHERE THE APP IS LOCATED ON YOUR HOME SCREEN OR IF IT IS INSIDE A FOLDER.

FINGERPRINT AND FACE RECOGNITION: The P30/P30 Pro has several security options, fingerprint ID, Face Recognition or Lock screen Password (6Digit Pin) If this is your first time to setup Fingerprint, know that you have to press a bit on the screen to register your prints. As for face recognition, its best to register in a well-lit environment. Dont forget you 6digit pin! as you’ll need to enter it everytime you reboot your phone or turn it off.

DISABLE NOTCH: The P30 only has a tiny notch but if you really hate it you can hide it by going to settings and type Notch on the search bar. On the same screen you can also Display your Carrier’s name as well as the speed of your internet connection.

MASTERPIECE THEMES: As one of the rewards for buying a P30 / P30 Pro Huawei is giving you the chance to own some of the most iconic masterpieces from Van Gogh, Gustave Klime, Camille Pissarro, Kramskoy Michelangelo, Gaugin etc and use them as your themes for free!

TURN ON DARK MODE: From FB Messenger, to Viber Dark Mode has been quite a thing recently and your P30 has a DarkMode feature as well regardless of the Theme you are using. Again go to settings Battery > Darken Interface Colors. Turn it on and everything will turn Black. You can also do this for SMS/Messages. Go to the Messages app tap the three dots at the upper right and “Enable Dark Mode” While you are there you can also tap settings and turn on Smart Reply and Suggestions so you dont have to type “K” all the time.

USE IT LIKE AN IPHONE: If you are still experiencing iOS withdrawal you can actually place a “home button” on the screen. Go to Settings > System (the last option on the bottom) > System Navigation and choose navigation dock. Tap it to watch a short tutorial on how you can use it like the “assistive touch” of the iPhone. The default option is Three Key Navigation, but if you dont want to see any icons below the screen switch to Gestures. Don’t worry there’s also a tutorial clip on how to use it.

ADJUST TEXT AND DISPLAY SIZE: Open Settings > Display >Text and display size gives you the option to increase the size of the text and the other display elements of your phone.

KEEP YOUR HOME SCREEN CLEAN WITH ‘App Drawer’ The P30 allows you to either put all your apps on multiple screens OR create an ‘app drawer’ where you can hide the apps that you don’t use regularly so they dont mess up the main screen. Go to Settings > Home Screen Settings > Home Screen Style and choose Drawer.

ALWAYS ON DISPLAY: While on the same Home screen and Wallpaper page there is an option called Always On Display. turn it on and your phone will display date time and alerts even if the screen is off.

KNOCK KNOCK SCREENSHOT: To capture a screenshot you could either swipe down the shortcuts menu and tap screenshot OR press and hold the Power + Volume Down button OR you could knock on the screen twice to capture your desired screenshot. To record a video screenshot use two knuckles to knock on the screen!

Now to capture those long message threads you can also do a scrolling screenshot . Draw and “S” on the screen with a single knuckle to start the screenshot and touch the screen at anytime to stop it.

MANAGE YOUR SCREEN TIME: Think you’re spending too much on your phone? Well with the P30 you can understand your habits and find that Digital Balance. Open Settings> search Digital Balance > Screen time Management to set your screen time app limits and display settings when its time to go to bed. This is alos perfect for kids using your phone.

EYE COMFORT: While you can easily Swipe down on the Notifications to turn on Eye Comfort mode you can actually set an automatic time to turn it on. Press and hold on the Eye Comfort icon and turn on Schedule so it’ll automatically set a better reading temperature for your eyes.

BLOCK SMS SPAM: “Do you need extra funds for business? Home Loan etc?” or worse “Kuya /Ate nagkamali po ako ng pasa load” Block these numbers easily by tapping on the 3 dots on the top right of the message, tap details and “Block & Report spam”

SET VIDEO RINGTONE: Because music ringtones are so 2017. Open Settings > Ringtones & Vibration > Ringtone and choose Video Ringtones

CAMERA TRICKS:

PORTRAIT AND BOKEH: Its all about the blurred backgrounds and while Portrait mode is perfect for taking human portraits you can also apply these effects to objects with results that are just as stunning. On the camera app simply swipe and choose  Aperture, focus on the object, keep the camera steady and shoot. If it still looks less blurred than you want you can change / adjust it in the gallery preview. Now who still needs a DSLR?

If you are shooting portraits though you can also choose from several effects by tapping the circular icon or adjust the beauty level with the face icon.

AI IS YOUR FRIEND: Huawei’s AI mode has received some criticisms in the past for being too aggressive, but for me its all a matter of preference. If you want to capture richer colors leave the AI on to help the camera identify and apply specific effects on your subject like food, blue sky, dog, cat etc. It will also automatically switch to night mode or portrait depending on the need.

ZOOM IN or COME CLOSER: The P30 Pro has a maximum of x50 zoom while the P30 has x30 zoom. Its up to you how or why you’d want to use it. What I love about the camera though is SuperMacro which lets you photograph those smaller things like flowers, insects etc in detail. It automatically turns one with AI or you can access it by swiping to MORE and choosing it in the menu.

SEE IN THE DARK : The P Series has made a name for itself because of its excellent low light photography. You just have to stay still for 4 to 6 seconds. but to truly capture excellent night shots use a tripod and you’ll be amazed how much the P30 can see in the dark.

LEARN TO BE A PRO: While you can already shoot great photos using Auto mode, imagine what more you can do if you master its Manual mode!

Access Pro mode by opening the camera then swiping across until Pro is selected. Now dont be overwhelmed by all the adjustments you can make or if yo don’t understand what those numbers mean. Good thing that Huawei has placed a handy information screen in the top right-hand corner: just tap on the ‘i’ and you’ll get a short description of what each setting does and how it will change the appearance of the finished image. Pro mode is best to use when you’ve got some time to experiment and set up your shot.

As a general rule, all you have to remember is that ISO controls the camera’s sensitivity to light (the lower it is, the darker the image), while the S controls your shutter speed and how much light you let in.

So that’s it for now we will be updating this post every time I discover a new trick so be sure to follow us on Facebook: @WhereisEdUy and on Instagram @whereiseduy for updates!
