With everything thats been leaked, Huawei might as well just call the P30 phones “announced” and get it over with.
Well, I guess its all over except for the formal announcement. As popular leak source Evan Blas tweeted “Not really trying anymore are they? #P30.”
Tonight (Philippine Time), Huawei will finally be revealing (more like an official announcement) its flagship P30 series in Paris. But after weeks and weeks of continuous leaks, there is very little surprise left (unless all of those were a diversion, which I highly doubt).
And for a company who’s been criticized for being a “national security threat,” they sure do a lousy job of keeping their own products secret.
A few days ago a slip by Amazon revealed everything we needed to know about the P30 family including the release date (April 5), preorder freebies and even the contents of the box.
Amazon listed the P30 Pro with 128GB of storage for 1028.19 EUR or $1,168 USD—or around Php 61,000++ ouch! Although the PH price could be quite lower.
It also detailed the specs of the Huawei P30 Pro, Its powered by the Kirin 980 chipset (same chip as the Huawei Mate 20 Pro) 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, with a 4200mAh battery. It will have Android 9 Pie pre-installed along with Huawei’s EMUI 9.1.
The P30 Pro will now have a quad-camera setup in back that includes FOUR LEICA CAMERAS! A 40MP primary “SuperSpectrum Sensor”, a 20MP ultra wide-angle sensor, an 8MP telephoto lens and a Time-of-Flight sensor for more accurate depth measurement and facial mapping. A new feature that’s been highly controversial is its 10x hybrid zoom. Video has been a weakspot for Huawei but things look promising with a unique Dual-View video featurethat allows a user to use two different cameras to record a video with a split screen, and its capable of shooting at “super high ISO” and low-light video recording.
And to make sure it captures all your blemishes and wrinkles it also comes with a 32MP front-facing selfie cam.
The phone will have a 6.5-inch AMOLED panel; 1080 x 2340 resolution and a 19.5:9 screen ratio. More good news as it comes with IP68 rating meaning you can submerge the phone in nearly 5 feet of water for as long as 30 minutes although I still don’t plan on testing that.
Inside the box you’ll find a USB-C headset, a Super Fast Charger, a type-C cable, and a micro USB to type-C adapter.
Meanwhile rumored specs for the Huawei P30 include a 6.1-inch OLED display carrying the same resolution of 1080 x 2340, and the same 19.5:9 aspect ratio. This model will sport a three camera setup although it wont have a Time-of-Flight camera, it should come with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage plus a 3500mAh battery and will also now have an IP68 rating.
As for the freebies, getting the P30 Pro on launch day at VivoCity will come with a free Huawei Watch GT and JBL Clip 2 speaker worth a total of $345.
As the 3rdlargest smartphone manufacturer, Huawei has had quite a run starting with the Huawei Mate 10 Pro followed by the P20 Pro, the first handset to feature a triple-camera setup and the spectacular Mate 20 Pro released late last year. The Chinese company shipped over 200,000 handsets last year, cementing its place as the third largest smartphone manufacturer in the world after Samsung and Apple.
This year, Huawei is clearly gunning for the top spot and that would be a remarkable achievement considering its lack of a carrier partner in the U.S. –the third largest market for smartphones globally.
