Riva Quenery: The General’s Daughter commands your attention

Despite having more than 26M views and 481K subcribers watching her 105 uploads on YouTube, Riva Quenery admits she still feels nervous about very first solo concert.

The dancing “Riva” is currently ranked number 49th in the Philippines for having the most number of subscribers on the video sharing platform; and while this General’s Daughter earns tens of thousands of views each time she uploads a new Vlog or dance video, she knows that preparing for a concert is totally different.

Her most watched Video has surpassed the 1 million mark.

“That is why I am really hands-on pagdating sa preparations,” she said during a recent blog conference. She adds she wants to feel “in charge” of the audience’s entertainment just like what she does in her YouTube videos.

“Sobrang kinakabahan ako kasi sanay ako na magpe-perform lang as guest, pero this time, event ko talaga ito. It’s all about me. Dito ko isu-showcase kung ano ang kaya kong ibigay sa mga tao,” she said.

Aptly called “RiVlog Live!” her “vlog themed” birthday concert will be held May 27, 2018 at the SM City Skydome. Riva says it is her way of celebrating her 20th birthday and to finally tick off a major goal on her and her supporters’ bucketlist.

“Kasi para rin ito yun sa mga sumusuporta sakin na kapag pinanood nila ang concert ko para rin silang nanonood ng vlogs ko ng live,” she adds.

Riva is the  daughter of  Gen. Robert Quenery, PMA 1985 graduate who is now assigned in Region 7. Born on May 29, 1998, she’s the youngest of three kids and the only girl. She said her dad was against it when she said she wanted to join showbiz.

“He wants me to finish college as I was taking up dentistry,” she says. “But I said baka pagsisihan ko later kapag hindi ko na-try gawin ang talagang gusto ko.”

She started her  RiVlog, which she runs all by herself in 2016. “I post stories about my travels, my dance numbers, and also challenges and requests made by my followers.”

Her Vlog had  its own milestone last year and received YouTube’s popular Silver Play Button award. This  recognition is given to channels that have amassed a total of 100,000 subscribers and with her continued popularity, it wouldn’t be a surprise if she reaches half a million subscribers in the next few months.

“Pinaka-excited ako sa mga bagong genre na gagawin ko, kasi may mga gagawin ako sa concert na hindi ko talaga nagagawa before. Excited ako to explore new things para sa mga taong sumusuporta sakin kasi matagal na nila itong hinihingi sakin,”” said Riva, who hopes to encourage more performers of her age to just keep dreaming and working hard for it because they can eventually come true—just like what is about to happen to her.

Dancing has always been Riva’s passion, as seen on the countless dance covers on her vlog, and the fact that she was tapped to be part of It’s Showtime’s GirlTrends. One of her biggest dancing feats happened just last month, after becoming part of the local hip-hop dance group, Power Impact. Riva and the dance crew’s rigorous trainings and long hours eventually paid off as they placed third under the Team Division at the World of Dance Manila 2018. She is also set to compete for World Dance Competition in Los Angeles California.

The former GirlTrends member promises fiery performances, fun banter, good memories and a whole bunch of inspiration during her one-night-only concert which she is also doing for the benefit of the kids at Tahanang Mapagkalinga ni Madre Rita.

“Every birthday ko, I make sure na tumutulong ako sa mga street children. Parang naging advocacy ko na siya. Parang naisip ko rin na, what better way to celebrate it than to make my supporters happy and share it with less fortunate kids.”

Joining her on the show are her bosom buddies including Krissha Viaje and Sammie Rimando, as well as Hashtags member Zeus Collins and FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano star Awra Briguela and Star Magic talent Maris Racal.

Produced by Hermie Carreon, directed by Marvin Caldito, catch Riva Quenery on her one-night only-concert at the SMSkydome this coming May 27. For tickets, just call SM tickets at 470-2222 or visit www.smtickets.com
