PLDT wireless subsidiary Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) is ramping up its roll-out of carrier-grade Smart Wifi across Southern Luzon, providing customers in the region with high quality connectivity and helping them be more productive on-the-go.

Smart Wifi is now available at the Bacoor Government Center, the latest addition to the growing list of Smart Wifi-powered government establishments across the country.

Aside from this key office, Smart Wifi is also available in the following government establishments across Southern Luzon: City Hall of Biñan in Laguna, Municipal Hall of Tanza in Cavite, Provincial Capitol of Batangas, Provincial Capitol of Laguna, City Hall of Puerto Princesa in Palawan, and City Hall of Sta Rosa in Laguna.

Digital transformation for the entire nation

“By rolling out carrier-grade Smart Wifi and providing fast connectivity to our local government partners across the country, PLDT continues to lead the country’s digital transformation into a Smart Nation,” said Jovy Hernandez, Senior Vice President and Head of Enterprise for PLDT and Smart.

“With Smart Wifi now available in more regions throughout the Philippines, high quality connections are now within the reach of more Filipinos, who can use them to access important government services, and stay connected via their social media while on-the-go,” he added.

A backhaul capacity of up to 100 megabits per second (expandable to 1 gigabit per second) allows users to have the best digital experience when accessing their emails and social media accounts, downloading and sending files on-the-go, and checking out relevant digital content and services online.

“Bacoor continues to level up as a city by making its functions and services within easier reach of the people who work and live here,” said Bacoor City Mayor Lani Mercado Revilla. “With this partnership with PLDT and Smart, we are helping our government and our people be more productive through technology.”

Smart Wifi in the South

Apart from connecting local government offices, Smart Wifi is also available in schools, hospitals, airports and seaports in Southern Luzon as well.

Smart Wifi also powers schools like the Bacoor National High School, National College of Science and Technology and Immaculate Concepcion Academy-East in Cavite, Letran Calamba in Laguna, Southern Luzon State University and Lucena City National High School in Quezon, and Ateneo de Naga in Camarines Sur.

Smart Wifi is also available in Southern Luzon medical establishments like Bacoor Doctors Medical Center and Emilio Aguinaldo Medical Center in Cavite, and Lipa Medix in Batangas, as well as in major transport hubs like the Legazpi Airport in Albay and the Puerto Princesa Seaport in Palawan.

Smart Spots have also been launched in South Streat in Tagaytay and MEZ Food Park in Lipa, Batangas.

Internet for All

“The nationwide rollout of Smart Wifi complements the ongoing network expansion and modernization program across the country. The network upgrade has resulted in significant improvements in voice, SMS, and mobile Internet coverage and quality, particularly on its LTE (Long Term Evolution) service. All these form part of an overarching effort to make the Internet accessible to all,” said Eric R. Alberto, Chief Revenue Officer of PLDT and Smart.

Smart’s LTE network improvement efforts across the country include re-equipping its cell sites to use low-frequency bands such as 700 MHz and 850 MHz to provide better indoor coverage, and deploying high-frequency bands like 1800 MHz and 2100 MHz to increase the cell sites’ capacity to handle more calls, texts, and ever-increasing mobile data traffic.

Smart’s network rollout took a big bulk of PLDT’s ramped-up capital expenditure program of P42.8 billion for 2016, which included the utilization of the new frequencies freed up with the acquisition of San Miguel Corporation’s telco assets.
