Megan Young wins Miss World Philippines 2013

What she couldn’t achieve in reality TV shows, she easily did in the pageant arena—win the big one.

Megan Lynne Young left the judges and most of the audience seemingly ‘starstruck’ from the day she submitted her application up to the coronation night en route to winning the Miss World Philippines 2013 title.

Young, who represented Olongapo will now be the Philippines entry to the 63rd Miss World 2013 pageant which will be held in Indonesia on September 28.

Her twitter name @meganbata also became one of the most mentioned on Twitter even before the program began with many celebrities such as Saab Magalona and former Miss World Princess Ruffa
Gutierrez continuously tweeting their support.

In an earlier interview, Young said joining the Miss World Philippines was one of the things she had always wanted to do. “There are many risks in joining this pageant, but it’s only something that happens once in a lifetime. It’s now or never!” said Young.

During the crucial question and answer portion, Megan was asked , “Why do you want to be Miss World Philippines?”

She said “Miss World PH is selfless and to be selfless, you need to have a heart. If I win Miss World PH, I would give myself wholeheartedly to be of service. Beauty with a heart.”

Runway and runaway winner
The 23-year-old Filipina-American also brought home majority of the special awards at the grand coronation held at the Grand Ballroom of the Solaire Resort and Casino Sunday night with a delayed telecast aired on GMA 7.

Besides the coveted title, which earned Young a P1 million worth of management contract from the pageant organizer as well as gifts and services from the contest’s sponsors, she also won Best in Fashion Runway, Miss Sports by Fila, Miss Reducin, Miss Olay, Miss Laguna World, Miss Bold and Glamorous by Revlon, Miss Figlia and Miss Bench Body.

Palawan native Janicel Lubina placed second and was proclaimed First Princess, Best in Swimwear and Miss Photogenic. As the reigning Miss Bikini Philippines, the 18-year-old Lubina, will represent the country in the Miss Bikini International competition later this year,

Zahra Bianca Saldua from Las Piñas City was crowned Second Princess and was proclaimed Miss Friendship and Miss Pantene.

Returning candidate Bianca Paz was proclaimed Third Princess and Best in Long Gown, which coincidentally were the same awards she won when she first joined pageant in 2011. Paz was also named Miss Redoxfat.

Completing the top five is Omarie Linn Osuna also from Olongapo City.

Other special awardees include: Miss Talent: Samantha Bernardo; and Miss Friendship: Zahra Bianca Saldua; Miss Novu Hair: Patricia Lae Ejercitado

From Reality search to Beauty pageant
Young, who is currently part of the TV5 drama series Misibis Bay was first seen on TV as an “avenger” in the GMA 7 reality talent search “Starstruck.” She later moved to ABS-CBN where she became part of another reality show Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition 2, and later cast in the several series such as “Precious Hearts Romances,” and “Betty La Fea.”

It was the first time Young joined a nationwide pageant although many observers have been convincing her to join for the past several years. Reports say she had tried to join the Bb. Pilipinas this year but was disqualified because of a sexy photoshoot she had done for a magazine cover.

My Husband’s Lover Night?
The much delayed TV telecast of the pageant on GMA 7 meanwhile earned the ire of many viewers because of the heavy-laded commercial breaks– which mostly showed the networks TV Series.

On twitter many netizens questioned if the pageant lacked sponsors as some of the commercial breaks lasted for 10 minutes all showing GMA programs.

There were also those who pointed out that the coronation night was also a promotion of My Husband’s Lover with the lead stars all being a part of the pageant– Carla Abellana as host, Dennis Trillo as judge, Tom Rodriguez as one of the performers –and Kuh Ledesma even singing the theme song of the show.
