There would be no ‘Enteng’ or ‘Agimat’ or Shake Rattle and Roll sequel in this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival, but it will still be the same faces who will be competing for the most coveted (and profitable) playdate of the year.
MMFF chief and MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino arrived two and a half hours late at yesterday’s press conference after being held up by President Benigno Aquino 3rd regarding the horrible traffic situation brought about by the numerous floods in the city.
Making several references to the flood situation and the festival, Tolentino said, “Tulad po ng Habagat, ang MMFF ay hindi natin maiiwasan.”
He then commended the industry for yet another batch of quality entries– initially 15 in total — from which the eight scripts were chosen by the MMFF Executive Committee, but expressed a bit of disappointment as the Animation category will not be making its debut this year. “Hindi natin narating ang animation category but I’m sure we will in the years to come,” he said. “Mahirap palang gawin yon — hindi kaya ng overnight, tulad ng solusyon sa flood control.”
Bossing versus Ser Chief?
After being dethroned in the box office last year by Sisterakas, Bossing Vic Sotto decided to ditch the Enteng franchise for a year and collaborate with the President’s sister Kris Aquino in the movie “Torky and my Little Bossing,” will this be the next big MMFF franchise?

After dominating the MMFF awards for two years, Gov. ER Ejercito will be missing this years MMFF and instead of a Filipino Hero we get the life story of a saint in San Pedro Calungsod starring JM De Guzman.
Action fans, however, would probably be happier with Robin Padilla taking over the genre in 10,000 hours.
Finally, Eugene Domingo and Piolo Pascual star in the Prequel of Kimmy Dora, which based on the two earlier films could be the darkhorse in the MMFF.
