|AnnaSophia Robb plays the young Carrie Bradshaw|
As one of TV’s most recognizable female characters of all time, Carrie Bradshaw needs no introduction. In ETC’s new show The Carrie Diaries premiering January 21, Monday at 9PM we turn back the clocks to 1984 and a 16-year-old Carrie who is discovering for the first time about love, loss, heartbreak, and the city she will one day rule.
AnnaSophia Robb plays the title character Carrie, a high school student dealing with the recent death of her mom. At home she puts up with her rebellious younger sister Dorritt (Stefania Owen), and her dad Tom (Matt Letscher). Adding some color to her otherwise boring life in suburban Connecticut are her friends – sweet, geeky Mouse (Ellen Wong), snarky Maggie (Katie Findlay) and sensitive Walt (Brendan Dooling). Even the acquaintance of a sexy new transfer student called Sebastian (Austin Butler) leaves Carrie feeling that small town life is not for her.
So when Carrie’s dad offers her the chance to intern at a law firm in Manhattan, all she can think about is stepping into the city where dreams come true! Carrie’s eyes are suddenly exposed to the glamour and grit New York City has to offer. From personal style to her self-confidence, the city and its many characters will influence Carrie as she makes her way in the world; navigating friendships, family, identities and the elusive embrace of the boy she loves.
Based on the novel by Candace Bushnell, The Carrie Diaries is a prequel to the hit 90’s TV show, Sex and the City. Calling all fans—old and new—this coming of age drama will recount how it all began as Carrie falls in love with the most important man in her life- Manhattan.
