CAUGHT IN A WEBBER OF MUSICAL MAGIC

THE UK DAILY MAIL REFERS TO HIM AS “ONE OF THE MOST PROLIFIC COMPOSERS OF MUSICALS,” AND FOR GOOD REASON. SIR ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER HAS NOT ONLY COMPOSED 16 OF THE MOST SUCCESSFUL MUSICALS OF OUR TIME, HE HAS ALSO CREATED MUSIC THAT SEAMLESSLY TRANSCENDS BOTH TIME AND GENRES.
His works have earned him a multitude of recognition including seven Tony Awards, three Grammys (including Best Contemporary Classical Composition for Requiem), seven Oliviers, two International Emmys, an Oscar and a Golden Globe, the Praemium Imperiale, the Richard Rodgers Award for Excellence in Musical Theatre, and The Kennedy Center Honor.
Even after 40 years, his music continues to have that extraordinary ability to touch an audience, and lift them to new heights of exhilaration and emotion after just a few bars of music. With his ability to narrate a story through music and lyrics, he has soared in defining contemporary musical theatre in a series of popular compositions imbued with an original rock-lyric band of vivid musical eclecticism, teeming melodiousness, and supreme theatrical flourish. Hundreds of millions have definitely emoted to his greatest hits such as “Memory” from Cats, The Musical; “All I Ask of You” from the tragic love story of The Phantom and Christine in The Phantom of the Opera; and “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” from Jesus Christ Superstar.
Now, Filipinos can finally experience all his great masterpieces in just one night as Lunchbox Theatrical Productions, David Atkins Enterprises, All Youth Channels and Concertus, in association with Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Really Useful Company Asia Pacific, brings to the country The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber.
“The emotional force of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s songs is undisputed,” says director Stuart Maunder. “We want to celebrate the extraordinary variety of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s output and the emotional force of his songs by presenting an intimate affair with all the emotion, all the tunes whilst taking you on a musical journey—one that is stylish, inventive and surprising, and also offers some rare insights into the mind of this genius creator.”
Lunchbox chief executive, James Cundall says the production will take audiences through all of the memorable scenes through state-of–the-art technology. “Audiences will be swept from the avenues of Broadway to the magnificence of Eva Peron’s Argentina, to the speedways of Starlight Express, in a dazzling journey through the many settings of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s greatest works. He promised that all the “big” moments from Evita, The Phantom of the Opera, Cats, Jesus Christ Superstar, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Sunset Boulevard, Woman in White to the current Love Never Dies will be there.
Lunchbox and David Atkins Enterprises have been responsible for numerous outstanding productions over the years including Miss Saigon, Singin’ In The Rain, The Phantom of the Opera (Singapore 2007 season, in association with The Really Useful Company Asia Pacific), Stomp, Swan Lake On Ice, We Will Rock You, Abba Mania and West Side Story, to name a few.
The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber will be staged at the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Tang-halang Nicanor Abelardo from June 24 to July 3.
