Kalibre Puno

“No more politics for me—just political talk.”
After a couple of attempts, Ricardo “Dong” Puno says his political days are over and he’s back to doing what he loves most: Hosting a political talk show.
THE respected television journalist, host and former The Manila Times columnist makes his big comeback via Dong Puno: Kalibre 41, one of the premier talk shows on AksyonTV UHF Channel 41, the first 24-hour news and sports channel on Philippine free TV.
He brings with him his wealth of experience as lawyer, newspaper columnist, educator, news anchor and award-winning host.
“Maybe it was God’s way of telling me to stick to television,” he humored.
Asked what he loves most about his work, Puno quickly retorted, “Being part of history. Not just witnessing events unfold but being there and telling your viewers about it.”
Puno says Kalibre 41 won’t be much different from his former shows—zeroing in on the biggest newsmakers and probing into the most important issues that Filipinos talk about. Despite the numerous advances in technology and news sources, Puno believes that “the more things change, the more it stays the same,” adding that the problems and topics he has discussed before still remain and that only the personalities change. “Ever since, I started my career in media, corruption has been a big issue, and up to now it still is.”
With his sharp inquiries and no-holds-barred style of questioning, Dong Puno seeks to make his audience understand the news better and give them a more informed perspective of what is happening in the country today.
The award-winning television host is proud to say that he is able to tackle different issues in various fields and is never afraid to ask the difficult questions.
“It’s something that I love doing. I ask the tough questions and try to get the right perspective on the issues at hand,” he said.
If given the chance, Puno says he’d like to interview Comedy King Dolphy and President Benigno Aquino 3rd. “I’ll want to ask them what the biggest misconception people have about them.”
Some of the hottest newsmakers that have guested on the show are Senators Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and Franklin Drilon, embattled Ombusman Merceditas Gutierrez, whistleblower George Rabusa, female boxing champion Ana Julaton, Mayor Fred Lim of Manila and Lauro Vizconde.
Dong Puno: Kalibre 41 was also able to have Pyke Fernandez air his sentiments for the first time on television after his release from jail in connection with the Vizconde massacre.

Dong Puno: Kalibre 41, airs Monday to Friday, from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. on AksyonTV Channel 41. It is also seen on Channel 29 in Metro Cebu and Metro Davao. Cignal cable subscribers can catch it on Channel 1.
