Iya Villania, the calendar girl

In what could very well be the most pleasant surprise this holiday season (especially for guys), Tanduay has finally revealed its calendar girl for 2011. She is actress-host-VJ Iya Villania. At her official presentation at the Imperial Palace Suites in Quezon City, Villania was quick to clarify that she isn’t abandoning her wholesome image any time soon.
“No, this doesn’t mean that I’m going sexy,” she told members of press after being named the newest Tanduay endorser.

“They showed me the concept of the photo shoot, I liked it, and didn’t find any reason to say no,” she said, adding, “I’m now more comfortable with my body [with vital statistics 34-25-34 on her 5’5” frame] so I said, OK, let’s do it.”

“Iya’s got the fresh, vibrant and sultry looks that fit our products, and most of all, the consistent drive to excel and attain greater heights in her career—just like the men who drink Tanduay Rhum 5 years aim to do,” explained Paul Lim, marketing manager of the alcoholic beverage.

“She is the total package of brains and beauty and she has captivated the hearts of Filipino men for many years. Iya has always been our choice, and we’ve actually been trying to convince her for the past several years, and just like she said it was the right time,” Lim added.

After gaining fame as a host for the TV show, Game Channel, the pretty talent was quickly snapped up by GMA 7. She then moved to ABS-CBN the following year, which lead to the continuing rise of her career, becoming a versatile host for TV and as the MYX Channel’s most recognized VJ.

The Filipino-Australian actress nearly signed up with GMA 7 where she was supposed to host a new show with boyfriend Drew Arellano, but changed her mind at the last minute, and renewed her contract with ABS-CBN. She says she was touched with the counter offer made by ABS-CBN.

“It means they still value me. Aside from US Girls now, they’ll give me new shows—a news and public affairs-reality show and a soap opera,” she revealed.

She said Arellano has been very supportive of her decision, even in posing as calendar girl for Tanduay.

“I always inform him about everything I do and he doesn’t stop me if it’s going to help my career. Besides, the shots were done very well and hindi naman malaswa ang mga kuha [the photos don’t look indecent],” she laughed.

And what was did her boyfriend have to say when he first saw the pictures?

“All he could say was—Wow!”—a reaction that pretty much sums up the Tanduay 2011 Calendar.

Other Tanduay Calendar Girls from the previous years include Ehra Madrigal (2008), Bangs Garcia (2009) and Niña Jose (2010).
