Hero Face Off:
After converging at the recent CosplayMania X, the best Cosplayers in the country once again came out in full force to grace the Hero Face Off: Ultimate Cosplay Battle.
The Skydome of SM North Edsa transformed into an animated arena as hundreds of cosplayers walked down the catwalk and tried to outpose each other for the titles and prizes at stake.
From charming Japanese school girls, killer ninja get-ups, to intricately designed robots and mechas, the event showcased the immense talent of our local cosplayers.
About 200 participants faced off in three categories: Kids Squad Individual, League of Heroes Group and Face Off Individual in a battle not just of costume designs but of character portrayal as well.
The competition was so close that the judges had no choice but to declare two Face-off champions.
Stephanie Alvez Sumbe, one of the freshest faces in the cosplay world, dressed up as a female Rathalos Blademaster from the game Monster Hunter Freedom Unite. The 21-year-old teacher from Colegio de Santa Cecilia in Valenzuela admits to being an avid player of Monster Hunter and is the reason why she could portray her character almost flawlessly.
Co-champion Mary Grace Roldan on the other hand left the audience in awe as she cosplayed not a specific character but as an entire castle. Yup. A moving castle.
Roldan, said the inspiration came from Howl’s Moving Castle a Japanese animated fantasy film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki and loosely based on a novel by Diana Wynne Jones. Her creation was so intricately done, Howl’s castle even had functioning lights and moving parts.
The two grand winners brought home P15,000 cash prize a Samsung F44 camcorder and tickets to attend the 2011 World Cosplay Summit in Nagoya Japan—the birthplace of cosplay itself.

The rumor mills are up and running again as photos of the rumored Playstation Phone spread like wildfire over the week. According to Engadget’s “multiple, trusted sources,” the Playstation Phone, is currently codenamed “Zeus,” and runs Android.
The “Zeus” will apparently be more powerful than the PSP, boasting a 1 GHz Qualcomm processor and 512 MB of RAM, with a screen about 4” across. It’s features most of the same buttons as the PSP, is branded Sony Ericsson, and apparently includes a microSD card slot for removable storage instead of the a UMD drive and/or Memory Stick. Finally, it also has a small touch-sensitive control surface similar to the DS.
Sony, initially declared the pictures as “definitely fake,” but the company later retreated to its more usual “we don’t comment on rumors or speculation” stance.
Engadget has gained recognition for its news scoops on several unannounced hardware, such as MacBook Air, the iPad, the Nexus One, and the iPhone 4 prototype.
