A Twilight Halloween

A “spooktacular” Halloween awaits gamers as Gameclub holds a two-day “Twilight Treat” at the SM Marikina on October 29 and 30. Each Gameclub community has prepared a lineup of activities guaranteed to give gamers a lot of fun and prizes. And to ensure that everyone can participate, simultaneous activities will be held at the Cyberzone Area and Event Center of the mall.

Cross fire

Feel the rush and experience the game’s newest addition—Escape Mode Attack. In this mode, one team must “escape” through a portal a certain number of times while the other team tries to prevent them.
The escaping team can blow up walls and doors to help them avoid their pursuers, and at halftime the teams will switch sides. The winners of this mini-tourney will get 1,000 eCoins and premium CF Merchandise.

Cosplayers who come to the event dressed as their favorite Cross Fire character or as CF Zombies will get a chance to pick out some awesome prizes including the elusive permanent AK47-Silver and permanent Elite Micro Galil. The best dressed will also bring home P5,000 in cash.

Weapons of war

WoW will again be holding a “Weapon o Bayong” contest where players have the option to go for an upgraded weapon or trade it for the contents of the bayong. Each participant will have to correctly answer several questions to get a chance to pick out a bayong. There will be 10 bayongs each containing different prizes including a PvP Bayong that will make them a formidable opponent in PvPs; an Upgrader Bayong that contains items which will enhance their weapons; a Leveling Bayong that contains rare items; and a Skull Candy Bayong that contains a Skull Candy item.

WoW will also be hosting their own version of Fear Factor a game that will test the participants luck, courage and taste buds.

Twelve sky 2

The power struggle has shifted into a battle for auditory supremacy. Twelve Sky players can form a band of four or five members and serenade the crowd with their vocal chops and musical prowess. Each band will be tasked to perform one cover song and one original composition. The best band will bring home cash prizes and premium game items.

For those who have not been blessed with musical talent, there is Twelve Sky 2’s take on the Amazing Race. Gather four of your friends and use your wits and speed as you perform tasks and solve clues to find the next pitstop. Are you as good as finding your next quest location in the real world as you are in-game?

On the second day, creepy creatures will be in style, as iDaters will be coming in their favorite ghoulish outfits to win fabulous freebies and cash prizes. iDate groups will be coming in themed costumes as well. Group members will be judged based on their concept and how they showcase their talents in singing, dancing, skit or role playing.

After successfully holding the Special Force World Championships, the clans of SF once again renew their rivalries in time for the five on five Halloween team battles. Helga, Chuck and the Tyrant also invade the SF Horror mode with their hordes of zombies. Fight to survive or become one of the undead.

Gameclub’s Twilight Treat is shaping up to be a must-attend event, so mark your calendars and see you at SM Marikina.

GAMEBYTES
The Wii might have spawned a lot of weird and (sometimes) worthless peripherals, but they pale in comparison to the Kinect’s Game Boat.

Yes you read it right. It’s a control peripheral for the supposedly controller-less Kinect system.

The Game Boat is for the upcoming Kinect Adventures, a game where you hurtle down a raging river onboard a (supposedly imaginary) inflatable raft. The Game Boat letsyou add that extra dimension of aquatic realism by giving you a real, 5-foot-long inflatable boat to sit in.

According to the Atomic Accessories website “The Game Boat is de facto the first accessory for the peripheral which doesn’t need any . . . Ideal to comfortably play in 2 gamers simultaneously, still without being clumsy in the living room.”

Clumsy no, stupid yes.

The Game Boat has no electronic parts, will not affect how you’d play the game and instead of any connector, it comes with a pump so you could easily inflate it within a few minutes. And since it is a real inflatable boat you can use the Game Boat in the –take note— “watyr” at the sea or at the pool.

Definitely a shoo-in for useless gaming peripherals.

Remember the 3DO? No? Well, I don’t blame you.

The 3DO was Panasonic’s attempt to penetrate the video game industry back in 1993. It boasted of some pretty impressive specs matched only by its ludicrous price tag of $700. Unfortunately, game makers stayed away from it and as a result, it died before it even had a chance.

Now almost two decades later, Panasonic will once again try their luck at the gaming industry, this time via a portable gaming system tailored specifically for online gamers.

The device, named “Jungle” looks like a cross between the Nintendo DS and a smart phone. It features a clamshell design, a full QWERTY keyboard, a D-pad, a touch pad and shoulder buttons. Panasonic says it is a way for fans of online games like WoW or Facebook to access their games anywhere they go.

Wait a minute, isn’t that the reason for gaming laptops?

This may be the reason why the Jungle is being met with more skepticism than enthusiasm. According to M2 Research’s Billy Pidgeon, the Jungle is a highly specialized dedicated portable for a non-existent market.”

So far, the only announced game for The Jungle is the upcoming browser-based MMO Battlestar Galactica Online—another unproven title, and with the 3DS and the possibility of the PSP2 looming, it seems the Jungle will be even less than a wildcard.

Barely three weeks before its scheduled release, Polyphony Digital has announced that Gran Turismo 5 will be delayed once again. Like its title, it’s also been more than five years since the last fully fledged installment in the GT series.

Instead of November 2, GT 5 will now be apparently released sometime this year, hopefully in time for the Holiday season.

“We sincerely apologize to [Gran Turismo] fans for the delay,” producer Taku Imasaki said. “However, creator Kazunori Yamauchi and the team at Polyphony Digital want to make certain they are creating the perfect racing experience, and we are confident that this ambitious game will exceed expectations when it launches.”

Just make sure it does launch Mr. Imasaki.
