Queens of Ragnarok, Jordan returns

When Team Shivans bagged the 2010 Ragnarok Philippine Championships they finally ended the reign of male dominated teams. Thus, for the first time, the country will be sending a contingent composed of three female representatives at the Ragnarok World Championships at Indonesia.

RO Queens Franchesca Fajardo, Precious Ann Branal and Trixian Joy Barroquina were joined by teammates Gabriel Mendoza, Nick Lanozo, Leonard Jasper Santos and Brian Kenneth Victa as they breezed past Team Naked 3-0 at the finals of the Ragnarok World Championships (RWC) 2010 Philippine Finals on July 17, at the A. Venue Events Hall, Makati City.

Defending champs and RWC 2009 first runner-up winners, Team Plants (formerly Team Influenza), beat Team Zombies to move on to the semifinals of the competition. But their dreams of a back-to-back victory were thwarted by Team Naked who qualified for the semifinals after beating Team Montage in the first round.

Team Shivans, on the other hand, beat Team Bitzbox in their qualifying match to clinch a semifinals seat and overwhelm Team Renegades who qualified in the semi-finals by winning over Team Kingdom of Justice.

When asked how they think the Philippines will fare in the international showdown later this year, Shivans team captain Brian Kenneth Victa replied in Filipino, “Syempre pipilitin natin maging champion sa Indonesia, kasi every year pataas naman ng pataas ang ranking ng Pilipinas. So siguro this year, champion na tayo [Of course we will strive to become champions in Indonesia, since Filipinos rank higher each year. So perhaps this year, we’ll be champions].”

The Philippines won second runner-up with Team Armada in 2007 and first runner-up with Team Influenza in 2009.

“We are confident that our new champions will, like those before them, do our country proud. The support and prayers of the Level Up! crew and the entire Filipino gaming community goes with them when they fly to Indonesia to represent the Philippines. We hope that this year will be the year when the Filipinos’ thirst for the RWC crown will finally be quenched.” says Mon Macutay, marketing director of Level Up! Inc.

Team Shivans will fly off to Jakarta, Indonesia to battle it out with the world’s best RO gamers at the Ragnarok World Championships 2010 in October. They also brought home the coveted Emperium trophy and P150,000 cash prize.

One of the longest-running and most prominent online gaming tournaments in the world, RWC gathers the best RO gamers from around the globe—all hoping to bring honor to their country by bringing home the prestigious RWC crown.

Apart from witnessing the glorious rise of Team Shivans, the RO community was also treated to rare in-game item prizes, contests, raffles and a cosplay and headgear-crafting competition.

‘Nba2k11’: Jordan VersionsAside from being the most awaited cover athlete for NBA 2K11, MJ will more than just share his image for the game cover. In fact he’ll be sharing 10 playable versions of himself in the game.

When Jason Argent, vice president for marketing of 2KSports, told a CNBC interview that NBA 2K11 will be the best selling videogame in the 10-year history of the company, he said they were not just banking on Jordan-adorned box art to sell the game.

Argent surprised everyone with the announcement of a “Jordan Challenge” mode that allows fans to play with 10 different versions of Jordan that are authentic to that moment.

“We wanted fans to be able to relive those moments and have a chance to play with different Jordan moments,” Argent said. “So we recreated all the teams, the matchups, the uniforms, everything from the time period of his most remembered games.”

In each game, gamers are charged with different goals, such as matching Jordan’s point totals and shooting percentage.

For example if you hit six three pointers in a row like Jordan did against the Trail Blazers in 1992, the virtual Jordan will shrug just like he did in real life on that night.

Another is the 1991 Finals version of Jordan vs. Dominique Wilkins where you have to hold Wilkins to 25
points or fewer.

Among the other games you can relive include:
· Game 2 of the first round of the playoffs against the Celtics when Jordan scored 63 (April 20, 1986).
· Regular season game against the Cavs when Jordan scored 69 (March 28, 1990).
· Game 1 of the first round of the playoffs versus the Trail Blazers when Jordan scored 35 in the first half (June 3, 1992).
· Jordan returns to the game and scores 55 against the Knicks (March 28, 1995).
· The famous Jordan with the flu game (June 11, 1997).

I remember a lot of my friends used to create Michael Jordan in previous basketball videogames so his airness’ official presence is definitely something to look forward to.
